This practice used to be excellent, but over the past few years the standard of care has declined significantly.
In our experience, there seems to be a much greater focus on recommending additional treatments and procedures. We often felt pressured into agreeing to them rather than being given balanced information about all the available options.
Our dog underwent dental surgery after we were advised it would improve her health and potentially add years to her life. Before the operation, she had an excellent quality of life. Sadly, following the procedure, she was left completely blind in one eye. We were devastated, especially as we were never informed that blindness was a possible complication or risk of the surgery.
We've since moved to Harrison's Vets and only wish we'd done so years earlier. The difference in care, communication and approach has been remarkable.
Based on our experience, I would not recommend this practice. All they are interested in is taking your money.
I have been a client of Yew Tree Vets for 11 years and have taken my dog there since she was a puppy. After my recent experience, I have asked for my dog to be removed from the practice because I no longer have any confidence in the care we received.
My 11-year-old female dog had been bleeding heavily twice within one month, so I took her in on 29 June 2026 because I was extremely worried.
The vet told me she was pregnant and did not want to examine my dog because my dog originally came from Romania. Instead of examining her, she asked only a few questions before saying I had to pay around £170 for a Brucella canis blood test before she would examine my dog. I was told there was a risk to the pregnant vet. I even asked if my dog’s usual vet could see her instead, but I was still told I needed the test or I would have to pay additional consultation fees.
The next day, I returned and agreed to every test they recommended, including blood tests, the Brucella test and an ultrasound. My only concern was getting my dog the treatment she needed. However, I felt I was being charged for tests that did not seem related to the reason my dog was bleeding, and I was also asked to pay for the previous day’s consultation even though no physical examination had taken place.
The costs quickly increased to around £650-£700. As a loyal customer of 11 years, I felt I was being treated as a source of money rather than someone seeking urgent help for a sick pet.
What upset me the most was the way I was spoken to. The vet became rude and eventually raised her voice at us. At the end of the appointment, she wanted to take my dog into another room to examine her privately, but after the way she had spoken to us, I no longer felt comfortable allowing my dog to be left alone with her. I was genuinely worried about leaving my dog with someone who had become so angry, so I refused and decided to leave.
I then asked for my dog to be removed from the practice because I had completely lost trust in the service.
I understand that veterinary practices have protocols and staff safety is important. However, I also expect compassion, respect, clear communication, and fair treatment. Sadly, after 11 years with this practice, I left feeling distressed, let down, and without confidence that my dog’s welfare was their priority.
Ocean, Emily, Pola and the rest of the fabulous team at Yew Tree Vets are fantastic! Each team member is so personable and client care is at the forefront of their minds, along with delivering the highest quality of healthcare for each pet. These people are the real deal and I cannot recommend them enough!
