One of the absolute best vets out there, by a mile! They took such wonderful care of my dog, Soro, even though they weren’t his usual vets.
Soro can be quite a handful-he’s very timid and anxious but not once did they make me feel like he was difficult to deal with. Every single person, from the reception team to the vets who treated him, was exceptional. They showed so much patience, kindness and empathy throughout.
I genuinely couldn’t recommend them highly enough. Thank you all so much again for taking such great care of Soro! ❤️

Finding a trustworthy vet is always stressful, and Kirkby Veterinary Centre (located at the Moorfield Centre, L33 1DF) sits somewhere in the middle of the spectrum. It functions as a solid local practice that genuinely delivers where it matters most—the clinical treatment of your pets—but it can occasionally feel bogged down by the typical flaws of a larger corporate-run chain.
On the positive side, the actual veterinary care is excellent. The vets and veterinary nurses are incredibly gentle, patient, and compassionate. On a recent check-up with a highly anxious rescue dog, the clinical team took their time, sat on the floor to make him feel comfortable, and didn't rush the assessment. They are thoroughly professional and clearly deeply devoted to the welfare of the animals. The practice itself is clean, bright, and modern, offering convenient on-site parking and accessible facilities, making it physically easy to get a sick or heavy pet from the car into the waiting room without extra stress.
However, the administration and scheduling side of the business can be a bit of a headache. Ever since the practice became part of a larger corporate group (CVS Group), it feels like some of that classic, seamless "local family vet" charm has been replaced by rigid protocols. Booking a routine appointment at short notice can be a real struggle, and they seem to be perpetually short-staffed or running behind schedule, meaning you often end up waiting past your allocated slot in the reception area.
Communication regarding medication quantities or sudden appointment cancellations can also be a bit hit-or-miss. Additionally, corporate ownership means prices for routine treatments, boosters, and flea/worming plans have crept up noticeably over the years. While they try to mitigate this by pushing their monthly subscription health scheme, it can still feel like a pricey visit compared to independent practices.
Ultimately, if your primary concern is ensuring your pet is looked after by skilled, caring medical professionals, Kirkby Vets is a dependable choice. Just be prepared to practice a bit of patience with the front-desk administration and the premium corporate pricing structures.

So grateful to this vet and her team for booking my poor cat in at very short notice, when he wasn’t even registered there (our own vet was less than helpful) and for the kindness and care they showed to us both. Thank you Kat!
