I had a very disappointing experience at Pets at Home when I was looking to purchase two rats. I was told by a staff member that I could only choose from two specific cages, both of which were extremely expensive, which they said was because rats need high space inside.
The customer service was normal until when I asked why two other cages of very similar size (but priced at nearly half the cost) were not suitable, I did not receive a proper explanation. Instead, I was simply told that it was “based on guidelines,” with no further clarification. The staff member appeared uninterested in helping and came across as dismissive and somewhat condescending, as if my question was unreasonable.
I fully understand the need to ensure proper care for animals, but customers should be given clear explanations and treated with respect. Being told that only the most expensive options are acceptable, without justification, felt more like upselling than genuine concern for animal welfare. Also considering they gave 4 rats a tiny cabin makes you wonder do they really care about animal welfare.

Pets at Home, The Groom Room, Letchworth, absolutely terrible service, my Chow went for a wash and brush, came out WET and not dried properly, was told I don’t brush her underneath when i do daily, was told to go back to my regular groomer!! Wanted to charge £20 on top of the £58 to get ONE matted piece out, I told them it can easily be brushed out I’ve seen it and that this is a money making exercise and the response is, “this is corporate business”.
Terrible experience do not go there! See less

Terrible customer service bought my puppy a wainwright toy on Saturday the till receipt paper had run out so I left it ,my 3kg yorkie last night was playing with the toy and neally choked on a squeaker and the insides of the toy as she was being totally supervised I got straight off her ,I took to store today for a replacement and was told no as toy was chewed….the toy should last more than a few days surely and she is a tiny yorkie .Staff and manager were awful no help even though I told them it was there fault I had no receipt ….i bought a different toy but be aware the toy was two wainwright flattie ducks which if a bigger dog had got could of choked on squeaker .i am waiting for head office to call me terrible customer service just to update I had my call from customer service she was lovely and totally agreed with me the toy should of been replaced and are sending me a voucher so Kate the Letchworth manager please take note the toy was faulty I wasn’t asking for money back I was asking for it to be replaced.How nice the lady was from head office may be learn a lesson from this letchworth store
