Unfortunately my experience recently has been very disappointing. As Torbridge had looked after our last dog for over ten years , I naturally assumed they would be a safe pair of hands for our new Collie puppy Wilf.
I took the puppy for the first visit as he seemed not to be able to keep any food down , his few stools were black and he was obviously in trouble. The Vet who ‘examined’ him said she could find no reason for any sort of scan and the ‘ Consultation’ was over within five minutes . No questions asked and no advice given . We continued to struggle.
The second time he tore out a tooth whilst playing. There was a lot of blood. The same vet didn’t even look in his mouth until I asked her to . He was in pain and this tooth continued to bleed . No help whatsoever . In total the time this Vet spent with Wilf over two ‘Consultations’ was about six minutes max . I then phoned a nearby Vet who has experience of working Collies who has offered tests re Wilfs digestive system as apparently Collies are prone to problems. He will get his scan and have blood tests. He will have a Collie eye and hip examination . None of this was offered to me by Torbridge . I would have thought that checking the health of a puppy is vital - all breeds are different and one size does not fit all . This Vet knew nothing about Collie puppies or the problems they are prone to . Disgracefully dismissive and not at all thorough . One day someones dog is going to continue to suffer as the result of the Vet not knowing potential weaknesses of a breed . Being aware that a Collie was coming in, it wouldn’t take long to read up on the main issues to look for or this Vet could have asked me some questions ! We pay a great deal for our puppies and expect a decent level of knowledge.
Obviously we have now changed Vets and our puppy will have all the appropriate tests to make sure he is healthy . I did think all Vets put that as priority . Not so . Not bothered and not at all helpful .
