The veterinary care itself was excellent – I'd happily give the vets 10/10. They were professional, caring and took the time to explain everything. I have absolutely no complaints about the standard of care Daisy received.
My disappointment is with the Pet Club.
When I signed up, I genuinely believed the Pet Club included routine health checks where you could mention any minor concerns during your dog's six-month or annual examination. In my mind, if I mentioned something like, "Her eye has been a little weepy," the vet would take a look while carrying out the health check, prescribe medication if needed, and I'd simply pay for the medication.
What I didn't realise was that the moment a specific problem is mentioned, it becomes a separate consultation with an additional consultation fee. Had someone simply said, "Just so you're aware, this will now be treated as a separate consultation," I'd have been absolutely fine with that because I could have decided how I wanted to proceed. Instead, I only discovered this when I arrived at reception to pay.
I also felt the cost of the medication was difficult to justify. The prescribed eye drops were just over £60, yet I later found the exact same medication available from reputable online veterinary pharmacies for around £10. I completely understand that veterinary practices have overheads and that medication supplied directly by the practice will cost more, but that difference felt significant.
The final frustration came when we struggled to administer the eye drops. We were originally told that if we had any problems, to let the practice know and they'd do what they could to help. When we called back, we were advised we'd need to book a nurse appointment at £39 each time assistance was needed. As Daisy needs the drops twice a day, that could have become very expensive, so we decided against it.
For me, this experience has made me question the value of the Pet Club itself. Looking back, it feels more like a monthly payment plan for vaccinations, flea and worming treatments than the preventative healthcare package I thought I was signing up for. That may well be how most veterinary health plans work.
We'll continue to use the vaccinations we've already paid for, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the vets themselves because the care they provide is first class. However, I'm not convinced the Pet Club represents the value I originally thought it did, and I'll certainly be looking at whether it would be more cost-effective simply to pay for vaccinations when needed.
This is, of course, just my personal experience. Others may see the value differently. My only real criticism is that I'd have appreciated clearer communication about what was and wasn't included before costs were incurred, allowing me to make an informed decision.

My cockapoo came here to see the consultant vet at the end of January 2026 for a heart scan. I was impressed and happy with all the staff I dealt with that day. So much so I've now transferred my dog to this vets.

Astonlee have been looking after my pets for over 40 years. There have been some changes since the practice was bought by CVS, but I have always found the staff to be kind and caring. Over 40 years they have been with us through sad times and good times. My current dog is very anxious especially around other dogs and the practice is always flexible about meeting his needs whether it be for a routine appointment or admission for a procedure. It’s really appreciated.
