- TTTravisMay 7, 20261.0If I could give zero stars, I would. I visited Pets at Home in Bracknell this morning and witnessed what I found to be a very upsetting interaction between staff and an elderly customer using a mobility scooter, who was accompanied by his dog. The dog was not on a lead, but throughout the entire incident it remained calm, obedient, and closely by its owner's side. At no point did the dog behave aggressively, cause disruption, or move away from the gentleman. A member of staff approached and informed the customer that the dog needed to be on a lead. The gentleman politely explained that his dog was fully under control at all times. Despite this, more staff members became involved, and the situation escalated unnecessarily. What was particularly concerning was the number of staff who gathered around this elderly customer. It felt intimidating and disproportionate, especially given that the dog remained quiet and perfectly behaved throughout. Instead of calmly explaining store policy and allowing the customer to complete his purchase, the gentleman was prevented from buying his items and was effectively escorted out. From where I stood, this appeared to be an unnecessarily confrontational way to handle the situation. A more measured and compassionate approach could easily have resolved the matter respectfully. Customer service should always be professional, fair, and mindful of how vulnerable customers may feel in these situations. Sadly, what I witnessed today fell well short of that standard.
