I’ve had an extremely disappointing experience with Banfield Pet Hospital over the years. I’ve maintained comprehensive wellness plans for one dog for 9 years and another for about 6 years, continuing largely because of the convenience of monthly payments—not because of the quality of care.
I’ve visited three different Banfield locations over that time (Augusta, Charlotte, and now McDonough), and unfortunately, the McDonough location has been the worst of an already frustrating pattern.
Common issues include long wait times for both drop-off and pickup, poor communication, and repeated misquotes from veterinarians and staff.
My most recent experience was especially unacceptable. In September 2025, I brought my dog in for diabetic symptoms. A glucose curve was recommended, and I was quoted around $150 before leaving. When I returned the next day, I was charged over $300. I paid because my dog needed accurate recommendations.
In December, my dog began having symptoms again, which I reported during her comprehensive exam. Dr. Lee, E. recommended another glucose curve. I specifically asked about pricing, explaining the prior charge and stating I would not proceed if it was similarly expensive. Dr. Lee told me she didn’t know where the previous amount came from and assured me the glucose curve would be $50. Based on that reassurance, I scheduled the test.
On the day of the appointment, I dropped my dog off at 8:30 a.m. The technician quoted me approximately $255. I immediately stated I would not proceed unless the price was $50 as quoted by Dr. Lee. The technician said she “took something off” and confirmed the glucose curve itself would be $50.
At around 1:00 p.m., I received a call from Dr. Anderson, N. stating that I had been misquoted, the glucose curve actually costs over $250, and that because it was already 1:00 p.m., the test could not be performed and would need to be rescheduled—even if I chose to pay.
This was incredibly frustrating. I work out of town and drove after a 12-hour shift to ensure my dog had eaten, received her insulin, and arrived on time for this appointment. All of that effort was wasted due to internal miscommunication and repeated pricing errors.
I am looking forward to canceling both wellness plans, though even that process is difficult since Banfield locks clients into annual contracts.
If you have a choice, I strongly recommend finding a reputable local veterinarian instead of signing up for a Banfield wellness plan.

These ppl are so slow checking in. Might as well stay at the drop off appointments because they take forever just to get the dog to the back

You will be waiting all day for your animal. I dropped my kitty off at 8am for a rabies vaccine. It’s now going on 1pm. When calling to schedule or check on the status you’ll be on hold for 30 min-1hr minimum. This is the worst experience overall.. I have experienced this multiple times from this location. Will not be returning.

I would not recommend the Banfield Pet Hospital in McDonough, GA. The facilities are not very clean, they are always short staffed, running out of supplies, using an outdated processing system, and has a bad odor.

We also offer the option of paying in full if you prefer.
