I brought my dog in for difficulty pooping. After just 5-10 minutes with the vet and nurse and a failed rectal exam, I was told to put my dog down. I asked repeatedly if there was anything we could do, and they said no ….that his quality of life wouldn’t improve. Let me be clear: he is otherwise healthy, has no chronic pain, eats normally, takes walks, and has no trouble with daily activities. He was prescribed Gabapentin, a five-day course of antibiotics, and euthanasia. (By Banfield) I was even told he was behind on vaccines, which wasn’t true….all his vaccines were up to date through Banfield, but they didn’t even provide correct documentation until I insisted. After this, I took him to EPIC in Saint Petersburg. They did a complete rectal exam and ultrasound, and it turned out he only needed antibiotics and a hypoallergenic diet. My dog is now fine. He’s pooping normally, no pain, no constipation, shedding less, and even his eyes are clearer. I’m not writing this to bash anyone, but to warn pet owners to seek a second opinion. I was in severe distress waiting to see a specialist, and it was the longest week of my life, but I’m so glad I trusted my gut. Chains like Banfield may be okay for basic care, but idk they couldn’t even keep his vaccines in order when they were in fact on time and all done in their care just not updated correctly. I understand that healthcare can be underfunded and understaffed, but I beg of you; if you don’t have a definite answer, just advise a pet owner to seek a second opinion. Please do better.

Vindictive. They actually put on your file that they won’t take future appointments because you call corporate on them for being seriously understaffed for years. It’s like the office staff or vet staff doesn’t work well with others. Or both. I’d advise pet parents to look elsewhere for their little loves because this might be an office who will be soon packing up for refusing clients and probably not hitting their volume goals.
