I am at a loss for words. I had an appointment scheduled for my brothers cat. We had a lot of trouble getting him into the carrier, but we eventually got him in and I drove 40 minutes to Vetco. I use this vet because I paid almost $300 for vital care, and this is the closest Vetco to me. My car cannot go over 30mph and it’s literally on its death bed but I had to make the drive to help my brothers cat. When I got there I was late which I apologized profusely for, explained the situation and said I don’t mind waiting as long as needed if need be due to me being late. The girl at the front desk said she was just reading my messages that I had sent an hour beforehand explaining the situation and also asking if I needed to make a later appointment. I asked because I didn’t want to make the risky 40 minute drive to be turned away. She said it’s alright and took me back to a room. She asked if he was having any problems and I told her he hasn’t been eating and is gagging and coughing. She left the room and came back to tell me that they had two emergencies and that I needed to reschedule. I asked when the next appointment was and it was at the same time I pick my kids up from school, so I said I wouldn’t be able to do that. I’m also not even sure I have enough gas in the tank to drive 40 minutes back home, and then 40 minutes to Vetco and back again. This is my only day off of work for two weeks, and by then it could be too late. She said she would talk to her manager. The manager came in and it was clear he was not looking for a solution, he was just trying to find a way to firmly explain why I needed to leave. He explained what was wrong with other people’s pets, and that he wouldn’t get a lunch today because of their emergencies. He asked why I was coming in and I told him that the cat is sick, he won’t eat and he’s coughing and gagging. He offered for me to come back later or in two weeks, saying that now that he knows the cat is sick it will take more time and that he definitely cannot make the time to see him today citing the other apparently more important emergencies for the apparently more important pets as the reason. At this point I was holding back tears as it was such a struggle to get him here to get him helped and now I was being turned away like his life means nothing and I had to make the risky 40 minute long drive back home with this poor sick cat that is suffering needlessly. I could not speak because I knew if I did I would just end up crying, so I got up and walked out as was expected of me. This was such a sickening and cruel experience. I would’ve waited hours if I had to for the emergencies to be taken care of and for them to get lunch (which he said he was already not getting because of the more important pets) if it meant he’d get the help he needed, and I told them I would wait. But they wanted me to leave. I can’t believe I spent my money for vital care which offers “unlimited visits” and I can’t even go to the only vet they allow me to because the vet prioritizes certain pets lives more than others. As I type this I am sitting in my car listening to him cough and gag. This is absolutely heinous. Vital care is a waste of money and a joke and so is Vetco.

Left after waiting over an hour. Rescheduled to the first appt in the day (8:15 am). Doctor not here. 45 minutes later and the Doctor's attitude was "45 mins is an improvement". I asked why I was able to book a time when he wasn't planning on being there. "I don't control scheduling". All he had to do was acknowledge the situation, but he chose arrogance instead.

I took my dog there because another vet gave him medicine for an ear infection that made him very sick. They were very kind and made him comfortable to be around them. They gave me options for the medicine and let me decide. He's doing much better now. Thank you

Do not take your dogs here if they get anxious at the vet. Doctor Keener has no bedside manner and will shame you if you decline to get a trazodone prescription for your pet. He wrote in the notes after the visit “ discussed pet has severe anxiety and should have anxiety medication before coming to the clinic, owner declined and doesn't care about the pet' panic attacks because he said it's only once a year”. Just think about the care he gives if he thinks you don’t love your pet because you won’t drug them for vet visits. Imagine you’re a dog who gets pulled away from your owner by strangers only to be poked with needles, you’d probably pee yourself too. They will not allow you to be in the room when they are giving shots or doing any exams, just save yourself the time and find a vet who cares about your pets as much as you do. This definitely isn’t the place.
