My dog, Yogi a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier and Banfield patient for many years was given the medication Adequan on August 11, 2025, even though he had documented cancer (soft tissue sarcoma in 2024 and hemangiosarcoma in 2025). At that same visit, Banfield was informed of his hemangiosarcoma diagnosis following his July splenectomy. Vaccines were refused due to his cancer, and I specifically asked whether Adequan was safe. I was assured it was fine. The injection was still administered despite clear contraindications and the medication’s own warning label stating it should not be used in animals with bleeding disorders or conditions that may cause internal bleeding. It was also given shortly before his surgery, which increases bleeding risk. Yogi declined rapidly after the injection and passed away on September 3, 2025, less than four weeks later. This was not an unavoidable medical outcome it was a preventable loss caused by ignoring clear safety warnings and documented medical history. Yogi did not die from cancer alone. He died because a drug known to cause bleeding risks was given to a dog with an active vascular tumor. On September 16, 2025, I contacted Banfield Corporate to report the issue. Adequan is only approved for osteoarthritis and has a general warning against use in animals with suspected bleeding disorders. Banfield’s lead veterinarian, stated to me that the medication “should not have been given” and admitted the doctor “should have known better.” Part of our wellness plan was refunded, and I was told Yogi's veterinary bills would be reimbursed. I later sent a formal demand letter, but instead of honoring that request, Banfield responded with a settlement and liability release, which I declined. Banfield removed Yogi’s medical records from my online account without warning or explanation. This lack of transparency and disregard for a grieving client's rights is both unethical and unacceptable. Yogi wasn't simply an animal in my life, he was my service dog, my daily support, and a true member of my family. Losing him this way has been devastating, and the lack of transparency and accountability afterward has made it even harder. I am sharing this so other pet parents are aware and can ask harder questions before trusting Banfield with their pets’ care, and so that no other pet parent has to go through this type of negligence or betrayal of trust. I am asking Banfield to respond to my demand letter, restore full access to Yogi’s records, and change internal protocols so pets with cancer or high-risk conditions are not given medications that can harm or kill them and to put stronger protections in place for animals with serious health conditions. A mistake becomes negligence the moment a business refuses to acknowledge it, learn from it, or prevent it from happening again. I never signed any agreement so I'm free to share my experience.

Worst experience. Free visit and booked a health certificate visit and there was no prior communication and neither any follow up. This location does not process health certificate and they called my appointment done. Spooky place not coming back.

I waited several weeks before writing this because I didn’t want it to come from a place of raw emotion. But after what we went through, people deserve to know what Banfield has become. We brought my dad’s senior dog in to discuss end of life care. Before anyone even looked at her, a tech came in and immediately started asking what tests we wanted to order, as if we were picking items for an online shopping cart. We were already emotional and confused, why are we being asked to choose medical tests? Isn’t that the vet’s job? They went to school for this. We didn’t. Feeling pressured and unsure, we agreed to a test. Only after that did the doctor finally come in. We talked about her condition, and together decided that the most humane option was euthanasia. It was painful but it was the right thing for her. After saying our final goodbyes, my dad went to the front desk and was asked to call a number later to continue paying off her wellness plan. They couldn’t even show enough compassion to handle it then and there. They didn’t suggest canceling it automatically even though she had just passed away in the next room. In one of the hardest moments of our lives, we felt treated like a revenue source, not a grieving family. It’s not about the money. It’s about the complete lack of compassion. The shift from care to corporate greed was unmistakable. I once held Banfield in such high regard. Now, after this experience, I can’t see them the same way.

I would never have someone at the front desk that hates their job, I had a terrible experience with Jenny whom from the very beginning had nothing but attitude. I booked an appointment online for my kitten and when I checked in with Jenny the first thing she says to me is “we tried calling you 3-4 times and it kept going to voicemail. the doctors are on their lunch break so we won’t be able to get to him till around 4 if you want to come back to drop him off” I said “what do you mean drop off” she said anything online you book is for drop off not in room. I started looking on my phone for a different location that can see him with me in room because I just didn’t feel comfortable leaving him especially with how I was being talked to. my normal location which is E colonial they are amazing and nothing like the Waterford lakes location. I bit my tongue the entire time and told myself maybe she is having a bad day but either way Banfield should not have someone like that as the main point of contact, I did not make her go into work today or gave her any reason to come at me so hostile. I hope you guys do better with training and guiding because no one would feel comfortable leaving their animal when they are being treated wrong.

Worst experience ever, I had an appointment in the morning when i got there the guy and lady at the front desk told me that my account was on hold cuz of payment this not being true because I have the withdrawal from them in my account this month, gave me a number that only works mon to fri. They didn’t see my cat and the stress from being in the cage made him pee and throw up. I can’t wait to cancel this awful service! Never again!
