Today, around 4:45 PM, I went to your business to pick up my dog after her grooming appointment and to purchase a few items.
At the register, the young employee told me the total amount, which was approximately $127 USD. I decided to pay in cash.
After stepping aside to allow the next customer to proceed, I asked:
“Where is my receipt?”
The employee replied:
“Oh, your receipt… sorry, it’s too late.”
At the time, I left without insisting. However, after thinking about it, I realized that this situation is not normal nor acceptable. A business is required to provide a receipt to its customers, especially when payment is made in cash.
I am reporting this incident because this type of practice should not occur and raises serious concerns regarding proper cash handling.
Thank you for taking this matter seriously.

I asked for assistance and was told to wait in that section and waited about 15mins before I went to the cashier again to let him know I still hadn’t been helped . . He said they were short staffed & would let someone know . (Brings me to believe he never asked for someone the first time I asked for help ). yet there were 2 people at the register. 1 who was just hanging out not helping other customers and was just talking to the one who was actually checking people out . When someone FINALLY got there to help me he helped someone else who had just got there . In total I ended up waiting for about 40mins . The staff also gives terribley innacurate information on how to properly take care of fish and aquatic plants . If they don’t know they should just say so . This has happened more than once .

Brought my dog in for grooming today and was turned away because he has a periodic limp from a minor ligament sprain months ago. He’s been fully cleared by our vet, in fact, when I requested his vaccination records specifically for this grooming appointment, my vet knew exactly why and confirmed he was fine to come in. He runs, plays, jumps, and zooms with zero issues.
I also already SIGNED the paperwork taking full responsibility if anything were to happen. So the liability was on me, not them. But apparently none of that mattered.
What really irritated me was the way it was handled: I was checked in with no issue, and then another employee, who was already giving me the “absolutely not” face and shaking her head before she even heard my situation, stepped in, and suddenly I’m turned away. It was clear the decision wasn’t about my dog’s actual condition, just rigid policy with zero nuance.
And, of course, it’s Sunday, so I can’t even call my vet to re-explain what they’ve already cleared. So now my time and trip were completely wasted.
I bring my other dog here too, but honestly, experiences like this, big box store or not, are exactly what make interactions feel cold, robotic, and disconnected from actual customer service or common sense. If Petco plans to deny groomings even when a dog is medically cleared AND the owner accepts liability, they should make that extremely clear ahead of time instead of waiting until check-in.
Won’t be returning.
Edited to respond to business owner:
Thanks for the response. I’m not sure what calling the store would accomplish, considering I was literally in the store dealing with this in person and was met with the same rigidity you’re asking me to call about. None of the employees even looked at my dog, the moment the word “limp” came out of my mouth, the decision was made, regardless of the fact that he’s been medically cleared and I had already signed the liability waiver.
I’m not looking for a one-off “resolution.” I’m pointing out that the policy is applied in an overly rigid way with zero common-sense evaluation, and customers aren’t made aware of it until after they arrive. A phone call isn’t going to change that. This is feedback about the experience and the policy itself, not something a quick conversation with the store will fix.
