On my first visit, I explained that my cat had tapeworm and was looking for Elanco. I was referred to Vetco for vaccinations by the employee on shift as the “Elanco would be ineffective.” As my cat was a rescue, I had no prior medical records and was surprised that a microchip scan wasn't performed until after the vaccine was administered, where they discovered she was both chipped and vaccinated, Dr. Leah Ackerman laughed it off and did not offer any solutions to the problem. I was given a 3-in-1 vaccine, costing $180, with a dewormer that Dr. Leah Ackerman assured me would treat tapeworm, despite it being labeled for roundworm and hookworm and despite me calling that out. My cat was double vaccinated and left lethargic for 3 days after this. Despite this error, I was still charged the full price. When the tapeworm persisted, I contacted customer service and was advised to get a booster as the booster would be the final blow to kill any of the worms that were eggs during the first vaccine, their words. The tapeworm briefly subsided after that call and before receiving the booster, but reappeared on Wednesday, December 17, 2025. I returned to Vetco on December 19th for the TAPEWORM BOOSTER I was told I would receive. During this second visit, I was initially told I would need to pay for the booster as well as another booster I was not informed of by the tech during my previous visit, which I accepted. After the booster was administered, Dr. Lisa Fultz clarified that the vaccine and booster were only effective against roundworm and hookworm, again, AFTER I called it out. After the vaccine was administered. My words were not listened to. Dr. Fultz acknowledged that I had communicated the issue was tapeworm from the start in the visit summary, and admitted the double vaccination was a mistake. She offered to discount the vaccine and cover the cost of Elanco ($30). Despite Dr. Fultz's assurance of a discounted price of $85, I was charged $115 at the register by Fransisco. Dr. Fultz had not covered the cost of the Elanco, and Fransisco had to use his own discount to bring the cost down to $107. As an 18-year-old student paying for college out of pocket, with a cat being thrown on me, this unexpected expense is a significant burden on my and my cats wellbeing. I did not go searching for this cat. If I did not take this cat in, this cat would be on the streets or been placed in a kill pound. This experience has made me question your ethical standards as a veterinary clinic.

UPDATE 11/21/25- To respond to the owner! I called the Customer service number the night this happened and have been waiting to hear back from someone, ANYONE, and nothing. I WANT KY $60 Dollars back because you never groomed my dog! You have stolen $60 out of my pocket for a service never rendered and that is illegal! I am waiting for the refund of my money and so better get it! HORRIBLE! My dog had a 5 pm appointment, I was 10 minutes early. The manager told me the bath and brush included a trim to the face, paw, pads, and sanitary areas. She told me to be back in an hour because she got to work early and wanted to leave on time. The same person who I later found out was the manager texted me at around 5:35 to tell me that my dog was ready and I should head back. I got back at 5:47 and LuLu was ready. Instead of being charged $36.99 for the bath and brush I was charged $60.00. $15.99 extra for the trim of sanitary area paws and face and for mail grinding that I did not ask for. I specifically told the manager I would do that next time! I was also charged $5.99 for long hair. My dog is 5.5 pounds and has very short hair. I began to put lulu in her holster and the smell hit me. Lulu was never washed. I can tell because she smelled exactly how she did when I dropped her off and that was the reason why I booked a bath and brush. I should have known that the bath was not done because LuLus coat was brushed but not fluffy pike when she is normally bathed. Also the smell. The manager took off the $6.00 for the long hair and I was more than upset but just paid and left. I immediately called the corporate office. I could tell that the manager was quite shady because she insisted she told me the trim would cost and attempted to make me believe I could not remember a simple conversation we had just 35 minutes ago. I also spoke to the cashier about it and he said there were many complaints about the manager so far and told me it was important to call corporate so I did. Needless to say I’m never going back to Petco! When someone books for a service that is $36.99 they do not expect to pay $60.00 at pick up. ALSO! When someone brings a dog for service they expect that service to be done. My dog did not receive a bath and I guess I should be happy because the manager is very shady and I would never trust her with my dog ever again. You have been warned!!
