Concerned about my recent experience with Banfield. After a routine dental procedure involving anesthesia, my dog developed severe diarrhea a few days later and was diagnosed with pancreatitis - something he has never experienced after prior dentals. I was presented with two expensive treatment options: a 3-day hospitalization costing around $2,500 or at-home care for about $1,000, with explanations only about general causes, not specific to my dog’s situation. After returning home, my dog began limping on the leg where an injection or IV was placed. At the follow-up visit, instead of addressing how this may have occurred, I was advised to proceed with additional diagnostics, including an X-ray costing $437, or accept a wellness plan increase of $40 over the next 18 months. While communication about general causes was clear, I strongly suspect the treatment may have contributed to these new issues. I feel financially pressured and no reassurance. I recommend asking detailed questions, monitoring your pet carefully, and considering a second opinion

I had a very disappointing experience at this hospital during my puppy’s recent visit. While we were there for his vaccination, he suddenly injured his leg. The vet suspected a fracture and advised waiting overnight before proceeding with an X-ray. The next day, I dropped him off at noon for the X-ray, and he remained there for six hours with no updates. When I finally called around 4:20 p.m., the vet confirmed the fracture and said they would apply a splint. An hour later, they called back saying they could no longer do it because they were closing and suggested I take him to an emergency clinic instead. They then told me to return the next morning, but when I arrived, the vet admitted they were overbooked and lacked experience performing splinting on live animals. I was shocked. I had already paid nearly $705 for exams and X-rays, yet my puppy remained in pain for two days with no treatment. I ultimately had to take him to another clinic, where he was properly casted immediately. I’m deeply disappointed by this hospital’s lack of professionalism, follow-through, and proper medical care. I gave one star only because the front staff were polite and seem suitable for routine vaccinations—but not for urgent or serious cases.

Waste of time. Told me one thing over the phone and when I got there. Then call me later to mandate me to get a vaccination. Straight bs. Miss this the corporate bullshit place. Don't bother responding

Excellent care of our “service dog in training “ puppy, Banjo. He is part of your SAVD program, under the name of Do Unto Others Service Dogs. Banfield nationwide generously provides free routine vet care, plus discounts on products and non- routine devices. We are grateful for Banfield’s support. Special thanks to Christine (Christina ?) for paving the way at the Lake Mary office.

I had a very concerning experience at Banfield Lake Mary with Luna, one of my dogs who is enrolled in one of the wellness plans they offer there. I took Luna on August 5, 2025, to have her ear checked because it had a strong and unusual odor, which to me was a clear sign of an ear infection. She was seen, and indeed, they sent her home with what they claimed was the strongest antibiotic they had. However, the medication had no effect, and by her follow-up on August 19, 2025, the infection had worsened. When I was given the medication, I was told to stop administering it after the indicated number of days (I believe it was 10), even if there was some left over. At the follow-up, Dr. Reading told me they could do a culture to determine the bacteria affecting her but that we should wait another week before doing it. So, I scheduled another appointment for September 10, 2025, for the culture to be done. At that time, I was informed it would take around two weeks to receive the results. By September 24, 2025, I expected some sort of communication from the clinic, but I received none. I called at 11:35 AM that day, and a receptionist told me she would call me back with information - she never did. That afternoon, I received a virtual appointment request, which I assumed was finally to inform me of Luna’s results. Shockingly, no one ever joined the video call - I waited for 30 minutes for nothing. As it was getting close to closing time, I called again at 5:55 PM. They left me on hold for 11 minutes only to say the doctor would call me back. I insisted that he call me that same evening. Finally, at 6:32 PM, Dr. Reading called and told me that the culture results had “magically” just come in (even though the receptionist earlier that day told me nothing had come up yet). He said Luna had two types of bacteria in her ear, one of which was quite resistant to antibiotics. He told me he would send a prescription to a compound pharmacy in Winter Park, and that the pharmacy would call me within two days to pick up the medication. Then I would have to bring the medicine back to Banfield Lake Mary so they could administer it to Luna. At that point, I felt like we were finally getting somewhere. I was hoping to finally have a solution so Luna could recover. But that wasn’t the case. Dr. Reading did not do his job, and it’s clear he showed little to no concern for Luna’s condition over the course of nearly two months. He never sent the prescription to any pharmacy. After receiving no call or update, I called Banfield Lake Mary again on September 29, 2025. The receptionist told me she would be there until 4:00 PM and would call me back with information. Guess what? She never called. Today, I got a call from the same location, but it was to reschedule an appointment for my other dog, Lola. I took the opportunity to ask this other receptionist, Ms. Teresa, about Luna’s case. She was very kind and said she would check Dr. Reading’s board to see if anything was there. When she returned, she told me Dr. Reading had not submitted any prescription for Luna. Fortunately, the technician on site at that moment was submitting it right away. I am extremely frustrated by Dr. Reading’s lack of professionalism and dedication. He clearly did not care that Luna had been suffering from an ear infection for almost two months, an infection he failed to treat or manage properly. It is unacceptable that I had to follow up and push them in order to get help. It's worth noting that apparently the $227.68 I paid for the culture and the $189.15 I pay monthly for the wellness plans for both of my dogs are not enough for those involved in Luna's case to do their jobs properly. Aside from Ms. Teresa, who I am truly grateful to for finally getting Luna her needed medication, everyone else involved in this situation has been incredibly incompetent. It is outrageous. I sincerely hope no other pet or pet owner has to go through what I went through with Luna.
