Banfield operates more like a sales-driven business than a veterinary clinic, and new pet owners should be extremely cautious.
My “free wellness visit” (from an adoption kit) was canceled the same morning, and no one answered when I called to reschedule. At the appointment, the focus shifted almost immediately to selling me an expensive wellness plan. The staff member spoke rapidly, did “math in his head” instead of writing anything down, and acted irritated when I asked for clear written information. When I actually found the online coupon he told me to search for “if I could,” he seemed surprised, as if he didn’t expect me to.
The vet suggested a possible upper respiratory infection with no tests, just because I mentioned the cat sneezed. When they trimmed her nails, she was restrained awkwardly and hissed, which she has never done with me.
The most concerning moment: while I was checking out, another customer was shouting about being wronged, and security was called on him. At the time, I didn’t understand why. After experiencing the cancellation process myself, I do.
When I returned to cancel the plan (which the contract says can be canceled in-hospital), the friendliness disappeared instantly. I was told it had to be done through corporate.. until I brought the physical contract inside. Only then did they process it, quietly, as if they didn’t want other customers hearing. I had to show receipts just to correct misleading information about what I supposedly owed.
I left feeling pressured, dismissed, and misled. If you’re looking for actual veterinary care and not a subscription sales pitch.. look elsewhere.

I’ve been bringing my cat to this Banfield location for over a year for his regular checkups and exams, and until recently, I trusted them with his care. However, my recent visit was extremely upsetting and disappointing.
I brought my cat in on Thursday after noticing his stomach moving rapidly for about a week. The staff member who checked me in was polite, and since it was a drop-off appointment, I left my cat in their care. Later, I was called back in and met with Dr. Hudak, who seemed visibly distressed. She told me I needed to take my cat to an emergency hospital. When I asked what was wrong and if there was anything they could do at Banfield, she mentioned they could run an X-ray and bloodwork for about $300.
I asked if there was any way to get the bill handled differently or set up a payment option, and her exact response was: “If you’re having money issues, then it’s best to put your pet to sleep.” Hearing that made me panic and break down — I was in shock. There was no empathy or compassion in how it was said, and it felt like my pet’s life only mattered if I could pay upfront.
After doing the X-ray, they told me to go immediately to the emergency hospital. I paid $387 before leaving, but when I asked for printed records to bring to the ER, they refused, saying I just needed to go. I felt completely dismissed and unheard during one of the scariest moments for my cat and me.
This experience left me heartbroken and deeply disappointed. I hope Banfield addresses how their staff communicate with pet owners in crisis, especially when emotions and fear are already so high. Compassion should always come first.

Brought my sick cat in to get checked out. I was told he was behind on his rabies vac, I asked them to not give him the shot unless he was healthy. As it turns out he was in heart failure and died that night. To make sure they got the most $$ from me they gave him the rabies shot, knowing he wouldn’t live very long!! I will never go there again!!! All about making $!

We also offer the option of paying in full if you prefer.
