I had to put down one of my fur babies today. Starting with Anita the receptionist, she was kind and courteous. Very understanding of my situation. Next was J the tech, he came out to my car and carried Roscoe into the hospital and put us in a room right away. I was trying not to cry, he handed me tissues and said he understood. And then Dr. Gonzalez, she has always been one of my favorite Drs from working at Banfield! She said that she remembered Roscoe from previous visits. And while I was telling him to go find our pack and that Foxie and I would see them later, she had tears in her eyes! It helped saying good bye!

Location: 📍 121 N Congress Ave, Boynton Beach, FL 33426 My experience at this location was deeply disappointing, and it was specifically due to Dr. Jennifer H. Burton — not the front desk staff, who were kind and professional throughout. I brought my cat in with three extremely obvious symptoms: severe drooling, difficulty eating/drinking, and a strong odor from his mouth. These are the top symptoms of a possible oral tumor — something even a basic Google search will tell you. The first thing any competent veterinarian should do is examine the mouth. Instead, Dr. Burton immediately recommended nearly $700 worth of tests without performing even a basic oral exam. Only right before running those tests did someone attempt to open his mouth, use a tongue depressor, and discover a large mass under his tongue. This would have been seen instantly had they done the most fundamental part of an exam. Even worse, I had to request that they administer fluids because my cat hasn’t been drinking. That wasn’t suggested by Dr. Burton at all. The one supportive treatment he actually needed — $82 fluids — came only because I requested it. Yet the expensive testing was pushed immediately and aggressively. During one of the calls, I also overheard Dr. Burton make an unnecessary and unprofessional comment: “Oh wow, she isn’t even picking up the call.” I had picked up, and I heard it. Completely inappropriate. When I expressed my concerns while picking up my cat, the staff admitted Dr. Burton is not their usual veterinarian. That says a lot. What makes this experience even more upsetting is that about five months ago, I had to put another cat to sleep at their Sunshine Square location. The veterinarian there was compassionate, honest, and did not push pointless or expensive tests. She refused to put my cat through unnecessary diagnostics because she knew the outcome wouldn’t change. Instead, she gave me real guidance on comfort and quality of life. THAT is what true veterinary care looks like. The contrast between these two experiences is staggering. Because of today’s lack of basic examination, the push for unnecessary expensive testing, the unprofessional remark, and the overall handling of my cat’s situation, I will be taking all further care — including his biopsy — to the Sunshine Square location or another provider entirely. I am also considering filing a formal complaint. Pet owners deserve thoughtful, competent, compassionate care. What I experienced here with Dr. Burton was the opposite.

This location has just opened, so, when I was called to make a booster shot appointment, I was urged to use the location. I was hesitant, but they were insistant. A mistake I will never make again. I arrived, was ushered into a room, waited a while. When a man came to take my dog to the back room, he took the leash and started pulling and dragging her. My dog, a meager 9 pounds, was distressed and resisting as he tactlessly dragged her down the corridor. While my dog was in the back room, I, the pet owner, heard her unmistakable high-pitched scream. She is generally stoic, and does not react this way when treated well. I was never informed of what had happened. When my dog was returned to me, they told me they wanted to give her an Antihistamine, and that I would have to pay $40 for it. Why? Because, they said, she is allergic to one of the vaccines, as per the notes. A complete fabrication, as she has never been allergic to any of the vaccines. They then gave me a dosis of Pyrandel, which the personnel are always responsible for administering, telling me to give it to the dog myself. They also gave me a fecal sample bottle. I was told that they could not take the test or administer the Pyrandel, so I would have to do it myself. They also refused to give all three vaccines that were due, forcing me to make another appointment and waste more time. She always receives these 3 vaccines at once, as one night of discomfort is better for the dog than 2 or 3 seperate occasions. But these people refused, with no reason given. I was instructed to make an appointment for the fecal and 3rd vaccine. In addition, the Vet was not present at the location, so I was never able to speak to a veterinarian. I was subsequently rushed out of the office with little explanation. If they were so hurried to close, why give me an appointment at this time (to which I had arrived early). I will say this, one man I spoke to on the phone to make that second appointment (maybe his name was Chris?) was extremely helpful and friendly.
