Colby’s is a gem for dog care. The staff is wonderful—every single person is warm, kind, and genuinely cares about your pup. They go above and beyond, whether it’s calling to check in if your dog isn’t feeling well, reminding you to leave your dog’s food, or lending a hand when your arms are full.
They also do a fantastic job of creating a sense of community with fun activities and events that bring dog owners together. Communication is top-notch—someone always picks up the phone or responds quickly to emails, which makes scheduling and updates so easy.
Their online portal is intuitive and easy to use, and as a bonus, they bring in photographers to capture the cutest photos of your dog. It’s clear that Colby’s isn’t just a daycare—it’s a place where dogs (and their humans) are truly cared for and connected.
The drawback is the cost, but it helps that my pup has fun when he goes!

Colby’s is the best! My dog has been going for several months now, and he adores it. It’s well worth the money - he gets to play with other dogs no matter the weather and I don’t have to worry about working late, baths are included and the nail trims are done well, and all the staff are so authentic and great with him and the other dogs. They do all sorts of extra events around holidays, have fun perks like pet of the month and bandanas, and the staff are caring about dog and family, very communicative and understanding - they make allowances for government shutdowns, allow for pauses in memberships, etc. I can’t recommend them highly enough!

Colby’s has been a great place for my girls when I am out of town. From the enrichment activities, movie nights, theme parties, professional photos & more.. there’s no doubt that the Colby’s team goes above and beyond for the pups and their owners. It’s comforting to know that my girls are spending their time with people who care about them as if they are their own pups. :)

Colby's Dogcare and Spa takes outstanding care of my Ms. Belle. The level of attention and detail and knowledge of my little dog is amazing. Their familiarity with the dogs history, inclduing medical history and how they execute each and every time my dog is placed in their care receives top priority treatment. They treat Ms. Belle like she is their own. I thoroughly appreciate the "personal care" the attention and affection and of course consideration always given. Colby's Dogcare and Spa gives me the level of comfort needed to delegate care when Ms. Belle is in residence.
Frequently Asked Questions About Colby's Dogcare and Spa
What are your vaccination requirements?
We take health and safety very seriously. To protect all pups in our care, we REQUIRE certification from your veterinarian that your pup has been vaccinated against:
• Bordetella
• Distemper (DHPP/DA2PP)
• Rabies
We also HIGHLY RECOMMEND:
• Vaccinating your pup against Leptospirosis and Canine Influenza
• Having an annual fecal screening
Of course, no pups are admitted with ticks, fleas, or other pests, and all should have legal licenses.
How do I schedule Daycare for the first time?
For the safety and comfort of all our guests, all first-time Daycare pups complete an Assessment Day.
You can think of an Assessment Day like a free day of Daycare. You can drop off your pup any time after 7am, but we recommend arriving between 9 am and 10 am and making sure you have 10-15 minutes available. That way we can make sure we have all your information and give you a tour of the facility.
We ask that you leave your pup with us for a minimum of 6 hours so that we can get to know them and vice versa. We ask that you fetch your pup between 3 and 4 pm.
When you come by to pick up your pup, we’ll discuss what kind of activities they enjoyed and who their new best pals are. To schedule an Assessment Day, submit a request here. We will get back to you confirming your reservation.
Does my pup need to be spayed/neutered to attend Daycare?
We welcome pups who have not been altered. Having multiple playrooms and small group sizes means we can create a safe environment for any well-behaved pup to play and rest.
However, for the safety of all pups, unaltered females must remain at home while in heat.
Who can attend Colby’s?
We are happy to care for pups of any size and weight, from 4 months old through adulthood. Pups may start as early as 3 months when enrolled in our Puppy Foundations class.
For the well-being of all pups in our care, we ask that you not bring your pup if he or she is either aggressive or unusually fearful. Similarly, your pup would be happier at home while recovering from an injury or illness.
All pups must complete an Assessment Day.
Do you have Daycare packages?
Yes! Our Daycare packages and memberships offer maximum savings. Call today to speak with a team member about available options.
Can you walk my pup while they’re at Daycare?
Yes, walks are available to add to any Daycare or Sleepover reservation. All walks are one-on-one, and we adhere to stringent safety protocols during walks, including physically clipping leashes to our belts and using Colby’s harnesses containing GPS tracking.
Daily walks are included in our Platinum and Pedigree Memberships.
Can I add a bath or groom to my pup’s Daycare reservation?
Absolutely! We’d be happy to set up a spa appointment for your pup to ensure they go home looking and feeling amazing.
When making a reservation, be sure you ask about our Spa Services.
How do you keep Colby’s clean and healthy?
We pride ourselves on being the safest and cleanest Daycare facility in DC. In each playroom, walls, floors, suites, and raised beds are cleaned multiple times a day with veterinary-grade disinfectant and Parvocide. Pups never share suites, bowls, or food with another pup not in their family, and bowls are never reused without being thoroughly cleaned. Plus, each of our four playrooms is separately ventilated.
What if I need to drop off my pup early or pick up late?
While we open our doors promptly at 7 AM and close them just as promptly at 7 PM, you can call us at 202-418-4848, and we are happy to arrange drop-off as early as 6:30 AM for $10.00 or pick-up as late as 10 PM for $15.00.
How many days should my pup attend Daycare?
We suggest bringing your pup to play at least one day every week. Why? Just like humans, pups are more comfortable with new friends when they’ve had the chance to spend more time together! This way, your pup will form relationships with the team members and other pups who come on their day and have an even better time.
We created our Memberships for exactly this reason, so that pups can play and stay with their furiends on the same days each week.
What is your cancelation policy?
You may cancel your daycare reservation with 72 hours’ notice for a full refund. All cancelation requests should be submitted by email to info@colbysdogcare.com.
Can I see my pup while they’re at Colby’s?
Yes! We publish photos throughout the day for parents to enjoy. We also encourage you to stop by and take a peek at your pup any time they’re with us.
You can access photos any time by going to colbysdogcare.com/photos.
Is my pup left alone at night?
Our highly trained and loving Pupcare Specialists are on-site 24/7 for unmatched supervision and peace of mind.
Who can sleep over at Colby’s?
Pups of all sizes are welcome at Colby’s. Puppies as old as 4 months are welcome to join us, or as young as 3 months if they’re enrolled in our Puppy Foundations class.
For the well-being of all pups in our care, we ask you please not bring in your pup if they’re aggressive or unusually fearful. Colby’s is a social play environment designed for pups who love to play with their own kind. Also, if your pup is recovering from illness or injury, we suggest keeping them home. All pups must complete an Assessment Day before playing with us.
Are sleepover reservations required?
In order to keep our resort one of the safest in the area, we depend on having the right number of Pupcare Specialists for the expected amount of pups every day. For this reason, we do require reservations for all our services.
Does my pup need to be spayed or neutered?
Pups who aren’t spayed or neutered are welcome to sleep over at Colby’s. Since we have four playrooms, we can ensure all guests are safe, happy, and comfortable while playing during their stay. However, we can’t accept females in heat for the safety of all our pups.
Can I add a bath or groom to my pup’s Sleepover?
Absolutely! We offer professional, full-service grooming and bathing at Colby’s. We’d love to send your pup home looking and feeling incredible! Just ask a Reservation Specialist when you call to make your reservation or to check in.
My pup takes medications. Can you administer them?
Yes, we’re able to administer many oral and topical medications for a small fee. Please bring all medications in their original containers with clearly written instructions. We also offer a special TLC Package designed for older and special needs pups, which includes unlimited administration of oral and topical medications. However, we’re not able to administer injections, including insulin.
Can you accommodate special needs pups?
Colby’s can accommodate pups with various kinds of special needs. Please call us to discuss how we can accommodate your pup.
Should I bring my pet’s food?

What about bedding?
All of our suites are outfitted with raised beds, so there’s no need to bring any bedding from home.
How is Colby’s cleaned?
We completely sanitize all of our play areas and suites multiple times per day using veterinary-grade cleansers. Pups never share suites, bowls, or food with pups outside their own family, and bowls are thoroughly cleaned between uses.
Can I tour the facility?
We’d love for you to see all Colby’s has to offer. Please stop by any time during our operating hours for a tour!

What kinds of products do you use?
We only use high quality, organic shampoos and conditioners designed for pups. We also have a line of specialty formulas including deep conditioning, hypoallergenic, coat whitening, and others.
Can you groom my puppy?
Yes, we’d love to! We believe it’s important for puppies to have their first grooming experience early in life so they can get accustomed to the sounds and sights of the spa. Our spa team is highly trained to provide a rewarding and safe spa experience for puppies.
How often should my pup come in for a bath?
Many pups benefit from a once-monthly bath, but it depends on your pup’s individual coat, activity level, and health. Some pups need a bath every two weeks!
How often does my pup need their nails trimmed?
Like human nails, your pup’s nails grow at a constant rate and will get uncomfortably long if not trimmed regularly. To keep their paws in tip-top condition, most parents bring their pup for a nail trim every 2-3 weeks.

Certainly! We’ll be happy to add a spa appointment to your pup’s reservation. Just give us a call ahead of time so we can book their appointment.
