They’ve consistently been accommodating, hardworking, and extremely detail-oriented. Emily in particular has always done an amazing job with my dog, Peaches — she listens, she cares, and she always gets the cut exactly right. Today, however, was a very different experience. I walked in to book Peaches’ next grooming appointment, as I’ve always done. While Emily was busy with another dog, the new manager, Claudia, and a new groomer were sitting nearby. After booking my appointment, I asked for a quick nail trim, something that has always been done as a simple courtesy and takes about a minute for my 7-pound dog. Instead of allowing the available groomer to help, Claudia instructed Emily to stop working on the dog she was already grooming just to trim Peaches’ nails. Then Claudia informed me I’d be charged for it. In three and a half years, I have never been charged for this, especially when it’s included in the appointment I already booked for next week. I explained this, but Claudia seemed uninterested and unmoved. The entire interaction felt cold, overly corporate, and lacking basic customer service or common-sense judgment. A manager should understand when to use discretion, especially with a loyal customer. Because of this experience, I walked out, took care of Peaches’ nails myself, and will not be returning to Petco grooming. It’s unfortunate, because the groomers here, especially Emily, have always been great. But management matters, and this change has completely shifted the experience. You’ve lost a long-time customer.
