I come here for things I need for my cat. Recently they were out of the litter I needed, but I do enjoy the variety they have when it comes to food/food toppers, and treats.

Went to buy food for my ferret with my wife today and the store had the ferret cage open so naturally as any one would we played with the ferrets didn’t take them out but we pet them and played with them someone by the name of Jay who is employed by petco decided to raise his voice in a aggressive manor and tell me to don’t pet the ferrets or touch the cage me and my wife where heavily debating on purchasing another ferret for the one we have at home and we where very interested in one of the ones they had. Now we will take our business elsewhere look for another one someplace else. As for what happened I would for petco to train their staff better on communication skills especially with paying customers not happy at all with this experience!

I went into Petco on a day when I was honestly just trying to hold it together. I had just inherited a pet under really difficult circumstances, and I felt completely overwhelmed—emotionally and practically. I didn’t even know where to start.
Tyler stepped in and met me exactly where I was, without me having to explain much. He has this rare combination of warmth, emotional intelligence, and humor that immediately made me feel less alone. He didn’t just help me pick out supplies—he helped me navigate the reality of what I was stepping into. He answered every question with patience, never rushed me, and somehow managed to make me laugh in a moment that felt incredibly heavy.
What stood out most was how human he was. Tyler didn’t treat me like just another customer—he treated me like someone going through something real. His kindness, steady presence, and lighthearted humor made an unbearable day feel manageable.
I walked in feeling lost and left feeling supported, capable, and honestly… a little more hopeful. That’s not something you expect from a trip to a pet store, but it’s exactly what I got.
Tyler, thank you for showing up the way you did. It meant more than you probably know.

I had an uncomfortable experience at Petco that I feel needs to be addressed. There was an issue during checkout where I genuinely believed—and still believe—that I handed the cashier $120. I do want to be clear that the cashier themselves was very kind and respectful. We were both genuinely confused in the moment, and initially they even agreed that I had handed over $120. I have no complaints about them at all—they handled the situation with patience and professionalism.
However, things shifted when another employee, Tyler (I’m not sure if he’s a manager or not), got involved. He went to review the camera footage and came back stating that I had only given $100.
To be clear, I don’t have a problem being wrong. If the situation had been explained to me calmly and respectfully, I would have accepted it without issue. What bothered me was not the outcome—it was the way it was handled.
Tyler approached me with a very aggressive and accusatory demeanor, as if he had just caught someone doing something wrong. His body language (throwing his hands up), tone, and overall attitude came across as extremely condescending and dismissive. There was no attempt to de-escalate or communicate with basic respect or understanding. It felt hostile and unnecessary for a situation that could have been handled professionally.
Even after I expressed how his approach was coming off, his tone remained harsh and unkind. I ultimately had to dismiss him from the conversation because it was clear he was not going to adjust his behavior. I understand that not everyone is going to be overly friendly, but if you work in customer service, there is a baseline level of respect and professionalism that should always be maintained.
The entire interaction left me feeling uncomfortable and honestly questioning whether I was treated this way because of how I look. I can’t help but wonder if this situation would have been handled differently if I were a white woman—if I would have been given the benefit of the doubt or at least approached with a different energy.
Overall, it was a very off-putting experience, and I hope management takes situations like this seriously. Customers deserve to be treated with respect, regardless of the circumstances.

My puppy's 1st grooming experience was completely ruined, photos of her 1st Christmas was with a bandaged paw and without a haircut. I also missed a really important dinner, spent 3 hours of my time in an uncomfortable chair at the hospital plus 2 additional trips to the vet and then charged for the next grooming appointment, and pretty much told not to bring my dog back.... but its OK bc they paid the vet bills.😠
Just before Christmas, the groomer cut my puppy's paw before she could get her 1st haircut.
I rebooked the same groomer in case she needed solace after the incident. (Huge mistake!)
I showed the groomer, J'Naya a photo of the look I wanted and she took a photo with her phone.
I also told J'Naya that if she engages with Clover then she will calm down bc she just wants attention.
When I picked Clover up, she was very anxious and looked nothing like the photo I shared. She had the ordinary yorkie cut but I said to myself "oh well, this one is free".
J'Naya was in a huge hurry and I felt talked at when she told me that Clover wouldn't stay still and would need to be sedated to be groomed and they can't groom medicated dogs so I should take her somewhere else.
Then she cut me off to tell me her ride was about to leave and asked me to go pay at a register.
I told her that the cut was free per the manager, Juliana and she told me: "I know you were told that but that manager doesn't work here anymore and Petco only pays the vet".
Rushed and caught off guard, I felt forced to pay and figured I would just call corporate for a refund, later.
I got a call-taker in a loud call center. He barely paid attention and it was obvious he was just filling out a form. He even tried to wrap it up before I had given all of the information.
I have not heard back from anyone and it's been 3 weeks
Update: as the "owner" advised via response to this review I called customer service (again). I was told to respond to an email for credit would be applied to my viral care rewards immediately and I replied to said email 5 days ago. Suprise suprise there's still no refund credits so I called customer service yet again. The man kept telling me he understands but he clearly did not understand. When I asked him to please listen and he did, he told me that nobody reached out to me because there was info missing including my contact info as if I did not just tell him about the email. The call ended with him telling me the claim is now properly filed and a supervisor would be in touch with me. How do I make a complaint about customer service? How awful! I will travel the extra distance to go to Petsmart from now on.
