Unforgettable backcountry dog sledding experience – professional, fun, and incredibly well organized Snow Buddy exceeded every expectation we had. From start to finish, this was one of the most memorable winter experiences we’ve ever done. First, the directions were extremely clear and detailed, which is crucial for a true backcountry location. We really appreciated how much thought they put into preparing guests ahead of time — knowing exactly where to go, where to stop, and what to expect made the drive feel safe and stress-free, even in winter conditions. Once we arrived, the experience itself was absolutely amazing. The guides were professional, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about what they do. They took the time to explain how everything works, made sure everyone felt comfortable, and created an atmosphere that was both safe and exciting. The dogs are clearly well cared for, happy, and eager to run — seeing how much they love what they do was one of the highlights. Driving the sled through the quiet forest was surreal, and sitting back to enjoy the scenery was just as magical. It’s the perfect balance of adventure and pure fun. This isn’t a touristy, rushed operation — it feels authentic, personal, and thoughtfully run. You can tell the team truly cares about the dogs, the guests, and the experience as a whole. If you’re looking for a once-in-a-lifetime winter adventure, Snow Buddy is 100% worth it. We would absolutely do this again and recommend it to anyone visiting Colorado in winter.

Snow Buddy provides THE BEST dog sledding tour in the region! Where else can you experience the joy of This ancient form of transportation AND be a part of a dog rescue mission?! Our group of 8 adults (2 per sled) had an awesome experience mushing a group of friendly and super energetic dogs through the twinkling snowy landscape of Routt National Forest. Sarah and Dan Piano took care of every detail, provided excellent instruction and guidance, and the guides for each team offered friendly and helpful coaching. The equipment and gear were great, everything was very clean, and the canvas tents were surprisingly warm and quite charming.

I am still high from this incredible experience. Erica picked us up at our door and drove us up into the higher elevations (with a last bathroom stop in Oak Creek), until we reached the snowbuddies base camp. Sara (owner) gave us a detailed briefing and lesson in a warm walled tent. She fitted us with boots, sledding suits, and better gloves, where needed. Each team was also given a walkie for communication. She’s a pro. We learned about the dogs and how to harness and drive them. With a few more tips about spacing the teams, among the barking, whining, and yelling of the teams- we were off! My husband and I were on a two-person sled and I drove first. Our guide, Wyatt, was so nice and professional. He kept us put to date about every upcoming stop and turn, and checked in with us frequently. Once we reached camp at the entrance to the national park, the dogs were unharnessed for a break and Dan (owner) hosted us with fresh-baked cookies and hot drinks in a warm walled tent. There was so much more, but you need to discover it for yourself. Do. Not. Hesitate. Book this outfit.

Sarah and the entire Snow Buddy crew are truly the best. After researching all the dog sledding outfitters in Colorado, I chose Snow Buddy because of the care with which they treat their dogs and the opportunity they give participants to drive the sleds. We received appropriate safety instructions and training, helped set up the teams, and drove the sleds in the wilderness on a beautiful, snowy day. The guides made sure we were safe and in control. The dogs are clearly happy and well cared for, even when they become too old to pull a sled. It was a spectacular experience!
