I’ve been a loyal customer, bringing my Pomeranian to this location for grooming for four years, and he has never bitten anyone. Today, February 12th, I brought him for a routine grooming. At 3:30 PM, I received a call saying the grooming stopped because my dog allegedly tried to bite. When I arrived, the first manager was very helpful but said she didn’t know how to handle the situation and needed to consult a higher manager. Meanwhile, Alicia Ramos, the grooming manager, told me I had to pay, despite the service being incomplete. I calmly explained that I wasn’t paying for partial service—my dog still needed a haircut, and I would have to take him elsewhere. Alicia Ramos then threatened that if I didn’t pay, she would keep my dog overnight. To prove a point, she put my dog back on the table. He was calm until they began tugging on his fur, trying to provoke a reaction. He tried to get away, but he never bit her. They made me watch my dog in distress, and I became so emotional that I broke down in tears. Even after the other manager called and got approval from a higher manager to release my dog, Alicia Ramos still refused. She held onto my dog for 30 minutes, despite the direct instruction, and the entire situation dragged on as they repeatedly called her. Petco stands for compassionate, patient care for pets, and this employee’s behavior is completely out of line with those values. Grooming should never be about rushing or maximizing profit; it should be about gentle, patient care. If Petco truly cared, they would not threaten to keep a pet overnight. After four years of consistent, safe visits, the only explanation I can think of is that they caused him pain. When I asked for Alicia’s name to escalate, she refused. When I asked another Petco associate, Alicia said I was causing a scene and told me to leave. All I wanted was to document her name to escalate this properly. This behavior does not align with Petco’s core values. I expect a formal review and a direct response on how you will ensure this never happens again. I’ve already contacted Petco corporate. This is their response so far: Thank you for sharing this information with us. We've forwarded it to our internal team for further handling. Rest assured, we take such concerns seriously and appreciate you for bringing this to our attention.

Unfortunately, I did not have a great experience with Alicia. I brought my 10.5-month-old dog in for her first grooming appointment, along with an additional service due to a noticeable odor. She was visibly nervous going in and I gave the groomer treats to make her feel comfortable. At pickup, I was told my dog showed signs of “incontinence” because she urinated and defecated during the appointment. Given that this was her first grooming experience and that she had been crated for about an hour before the service began, I felt this could reasonably be due to nerves. However, I was told that was not the case and was advised to take her to a veterinarian if it continued. It was also suggested this could be related to her being spayed too early, which felt inappropriate and outside the scope of a grooming appointment. I was also told my dog was too young for the additional service I had requested, despite being told at check-in that it would be included. Overall, the experience was disappointing from check-in to pickup. I go to groomers for grooming services, not medical opinions, and I did not feel the communication or guidance was professional.
