We used the dog wash in this store. The area was dirty, the towels old, the shampoo bottles old and dirty, they don’t clean the floors and the bath area. Also, I was told by a staff member that I could not used my own dog nail clippers while I was in the store. Anyway…not coming back here again.

If I could give zero stars, I would. This was by far the worst experience I’ve ever had with Petco.
I was taken aback by the complete lack of courtesy, consideration, or basic customer service at the Petco location on Sepulveda (Store #5850, Van Nuys). I purchased a fish that was clearly already sick and stressed at the time of sale. Within hours of bringing it home, it showed signs of illness and eventually infected my entire, well-established tank—putting my previously healthy fish at risk.
When I returned to the store requesting an exchange or refund, I was met with dismissive and rude behavior from the associates. This was especially frustrating considering the store itself has multiple fish currently under observation and not for sale due to illness and rapid decline—clearly indicating an ongoing issue with their fish stock.
While I did unfortunately misplace my receipt, my purchase was fully verifiable through my phone number and Petco account history, which clearly shows the fish was purchased just three days prior. Despite this, the associates made every excuse possible to deny any form of resolution or goodwill.
The fish ultimately passed away, which was upsetting enough on its own. Waking up to see my existing fish displaying the same symptoms made the situation even worse. I’m now at a loss not only for the fish I purchased, but potentially my entire tank due to a preventable issue.
This experience was extremely disappointing and stressful. I have filed a formal complaint and hope Petco takes this seriously, as no customer should be treated this way—especially when the issue stems from selling sick animals. I sincerely hope others do not have to go through a similar experience. Also the names of the associates are sevyn and Jesus that work in the evening shift

If I could give zero stars I would or negative rating I for sure would. This is by far the worst experience I’ve ever experienced with Petco. I was taking a back by the Clayton disregard of courtesy and any type of consideration that could be given. There was absolutely none if there was anything to be taken back. The associates definitely did so this all transpired by me essentially wanting to exchange a fish that was already sick and had infected my entire tank, causing more problems than what it was worth. I requested to exchange the fish that it was already sick and it was already in a stressed state when purchased, and it started to spread whatever the entire fish stock at Petco Sepulveda location. To my existing fish in my well-established tank, they have fish that they will not sell because they are under observation and dying at a rapid rate. They are essentially In store, making every excuse not to give me any type of grace. Now I do admit that I had lost the receipt to the fish, but however, my phone number associated with the account shows all my purchases and shows that I purchased this fish Amir three days ago and the fish immediately went to the bottom didn’t wanna come up to the top. Didn’t want to engage I did treat the fish with some nutrients and different additives to alleviate some of the stress and sickness that this fish had so I came home from work yesterday and unfortunately the fish passed, which is very saddening in itself and then have to deal with rude Petco associates was not conducive to the situation and it’s entirety when I woke up this morning. My fish started displaying the same behavior that the fish from Petco had and basically I’m not only at a loss with a fish and I was refused a refund or an exchange, but now I’m at a loss with my own fish that was already nice and healthy so very very disappointing. Very depressing and I can only hope that this experience doesn’t cascade onto others and they have a better experience I did file a formal complaint, but I wanted to definitely bring awareness to the 5850 location in Sepulveda in Van Nuys.

I really liked this particular Petco store because it was fully stocked and had so many varieties of dog food to choose from. My dog is 15 years old and had experienced a life threatening medical issue. Before then, he loved anything I fed him. He was 24/7 foodie. He ate Primal Raw food, but since his issues, he’s no longer allowed to eat raw, plus has become so picky. We are currently feeding Fresh Pet. I love that Petco has so many varieties of Fresh Pet to choose from. Also, love that they have so many dog treats to choose from as well. Thank you!
