I have taken my dog to the vet at the petco on cottle rd for his first vet visit and for all of his vaccines. A year and 2 months later our groomer told us we might want to get him checked because he might be missing a testicle. I questioned it because we’ve been to this vet multiple times, not once has anyone said anything to us and I believed it’s something they would check as he develops. Last weekend I got a second opinion from another vet that confirmed my dog is cryptorchid and has one undescended testicle. Fast forward to today, I walked into petco for my dog to get his vaccines and I question the vet tech how nobody at this site noticed my dog was missing a testicle. The vet tech was really surprised, understanding, and handled the situation well(I think her name was Claryssa). She said she would get the hospital manager to discuss the situation and we can go from there. Bret Osborne the hospital manager walked in and was super confrontational from the beginning. I explained the situation about how my dog was missing a testicle and that nobody said anything, even after multiple visits. He tried to down play the situation and started off with “well we’re not going to listen to a groomer”, I explained that last weekend I got a second opinion and they said he only has one testicle. Bret still didn’t want to take any responsibility and starts going off on a tangent on how sometimes the testicle could get stuck and although it might appear like there’s one, there’s really 2. I then repeat myself and explain how a 2nd pet hospital confirmed he only has one testicle. I told Bret I was annoyed because leaving an undescended testicle untreated can increase the risk of cancer. Bret then tried to downplay the situation even more and said that the testicle would have been found when I went to get him neutered. I then explained that I never planned to get him neutered so if the groomer never noticed, it still wouldn’t have been identified. Bret continued to try and down play the situation and tried to say that the risk of cancer is minimal and that a lot of dogs have undescended testicles that can go unnoticed and they’re fine. The repeated statements made by Bret Osborne who is supposed to be the hospital manager lacked any concern at all and in fact, he was pretty confident that my dogs undescended testicle going unnoticed was not an issue. He would still be there trying to argue with me if I didn’t stop him from talking and suggest that he bring the doctor in so he can tell him my dog has only one testicle. The doctor then comes in and handled the situation 100% better than Bret did. He confirmed that my dog is missing a testicle and explained what my next steps would be. Both the Doctor and vet tech were understanding and I appreciated the way they handled the situation. The level of unprofessionalism from Bret was surprising to see and I can’t understand how he is still employed there if that’s how he handles himself.

The veterinary assistant was very kind and attentive, but unfortunately my experience with the veterinarian Indian has was not good. I felt that he did not show empathy or confidence when handling my dog and even seemed afraid to touch him. My pet felt uncomfortable and sensed the rejection, which really concerned me. In addition, I believe the examination was not done properly. He did not perform a thorough exam or listen to my dog’s heart correctly. This left me with a very bad impression, as I expect professional, careful, and compassionate treatment for animals.
