The number of positive reviews about this clinic is wild to me. I would never and will never bring any pet I have to any Banfield location. We got a new puppy and decided on Banfield due to their OWP because it covers the neuter. First, they don’t let you go back with your dog even for a regular checkup. Dropping my puppy off for HOURS for a simple office visit and vaccine is not in the best interest of the animal or pet parent. When the time came to schedule the neuter, I asked for a time frame due to needing to plan my work schedule. They couldn’t give me any guidance, so I took the entire day off. The day of the neuter appointment I was told to drop him off at 8am - fasting. I asked what time you anticipate him being done. The receptionist stated they finish all neuters between 12-1pm. Then they asked if I would like his nails clipped and anal glands expressed while he is under anesthesia. There was ZERO indication that this was not covered or extra and they didn’t tell me that either- I found out when I picked him up. I also bought a surgery suit because I didn’t want my dog to have a plastic cone. They said they would call me if the suit didn’t work because I also indicated I had a soft cone I would bring if the suit did not work. Around 1pm I heard nothing from the clinic. I called in and was on hold for 30 minutes for them to tell me that they had just started by dogs surgery. Mind you my dog had not had any food or water since midnight. So, it’s now 3pm and I heard nothing. I called in again; the receptionist told me that they had just started my dog’s surgery, and I said that is what I was told 2 hours ago. The receptionist stated she had no idea who told me that. Finally, I got a call to say that my dog is finished and in recovery and I can pick him up any time after 5PM! I missed an entire day of work when I didn’t need to. When I arrive, they then tell me that the surgery suit didn’t work and bring him out to me in a plastic cone – which I had already told them I did not want. When she gave me my total, I was shocked because we had the OWP – the only thing I expected to pay for was the medication. She said there is a charge for the nail trim, anal gland express, and THE CONE! I told her I did not want the cone and specifically said I had an alternative to bring if the surgery suit didn’t work. They refused to remove the charge for the cone. Then when Dr. Wu came out to speak to me, she told me verbatim “You need to train your dog to like being restrained” I was shocked. She told me she had to give him calming medication before she could insert his IV. I told her, you left him kenneled for HOURS and he was stressed out and every time he comes here no one can be with him even for an office visit and when he is here it’s not enjoyable, so he doesn’t like it here. I also told her that the patients I work with sometimes need calming medication for things like this and I can speak to them, and they understand so this shouldn’t be an issue doing it for animals. She continued to lecture me on how I need to train my dog. Mind you my dog has zero problems like this at the groomer, daycare or boarding. Now my dog is TERRIFIED of the very and I have to spend time and money doing happy visits at another vet before he receives care so I can ease his anxiety around it.

I can’t say enough wonderful things about the team at Banfield in Rancho Santa Margarita! Every visit, the staff is so kind, caring, and loving with my pets. They truly make us feel welcomed and supported. Dr. Wu is absolutely one of a kind not only an excellent veterinarian but also someone with a warm, compassionate personality. She takes the time to explain things, listens carefully, and you can tell she genuinely loves what she does. I’m so grateful to have such a loving and dedicated team caring for my pets. Highly recommend this Banfield location to anyone looking for exceptional veterinary care! Love Lauren Minnie and Monet 🐈‍⬛🐈

I had an appointment for a nail trim for my dog. When I came in, I waited for fifteen minutes before they even acknowledged and checked me in. I understand they are understaffed but they should have more staff so the service is not so bad.
