Had an appointment today for this afternoon. Got a call this morning waking me from sleep to find a voice message from Kylie stating that the vet (dr chen?) had called in sick and sorry for the inconvenience and left a number for me to call. Called it immediately, but got a message stating the office was closed and to leave a message.
Banfield@ Rancho Cucamonga: the next time you have to cancel because once again the vet "called in sick", have the courtesy to leave a number that someone will actually answer, and perhaps even offer an appointment at another local Banfield for the same day. Instead, the voice message left me with the Rancho number, which was set to automated voice mail due to being "closed", leaving me to look up other Banfield locations and track down phone numbers for open offices. No alternate phone number was offered in the voice message.
Leaving a message stating you are canceling like that, without any other assistance, was unprofessional. Since this is not the first time Banfield has done this, having experienced this more times than one would think with any vet other than Dr Sesody (one of the few reasons I continued with Banfield Rancho), I am going to have to look into finding another vet.
Banfield, I suggest that in the future, you be both more proactive and more professional, and schedule more than one vet for a Saturday. If your vet regularly calls in sick, perhaps its time to find another vet to replace. Your vet calling in sick, is not our problem.

Scam!!
We took our cat to the vet in November when he started showing signs of illness and was drooling. Initially, the prescribed medication didn't improve his condition. At that time, the vet suggested getting pet insurance, which cost $151. In December, when symptoms persisted, the vet recommended upgrading to a senior care insurance plan for $103, covering biopsy, senior care, and tooth cleaning.
Unfortunately, the vet diagnosed our cat with oral cancer and suggested a biopsy costing $400 to confirm the diagnosis. They also recommended tooth cleaning under anesthesia. Since we couldn't afford both, even after upgrading insurance, we requested just the tooth cleaning. However, the vet refused due to our cat’s age.
Despite paying for insurance, we felt no real help was provided, only requests for more money, and were told insurance fees must be paid even if our cat passes away. Which he did on January 5th 2026, at 3:04pm. This experience highlights the importance of researching veterinarians and insurance policies carefully before committing.

The vet techs are nice for the most part. I noticed a lot of turn over for past two years and i feel like that’s why the quality has gone down so much. Dr Sesody is never available when needed to see my dogs and I’m always getting the run around with his medications. It’s absolutely ridiculous the lengths and i have to go through for refills of medication that my dog has been on for over a year. She or he (that just shows i don’t even know if the doctor is male or female because they have not been available) never returns calls or questions like ask. The vet techs have to play the middle man to give me info and it’s always a generic answer. I have had some sweet encounters with the vet techs and the front desk and i understand that it’s not their fault but the service here has gone down hill. I have already taken my pets to another Banfield with better service.

Brought my new kitten to the hospital for her first check up. Dr. Sesody and Alex were really helpful in letting me know my next steps!

I cancelled my pet insurance at the beginning of the year so this is on them.
I won't go back to Banfield. My wife's dog has gotten mange(old dog but her vet figured it out and I was able to get mine squared away after the fact).
So the dogs start itching like mad. I take mine into the vet and they think it's a fungal infection so they give me some stuff for it which doesn't help.
My wife took her dog to the vet and they did a skin scraping and found the mite. So I go back to Banfield and ask them for the treatment I need. They are confused and another vet(never ever got the same one here) looked at the file and had questions about the previous treatment. The nurse then informed him that "the other vet didn't know what it was so they just prescribed this" which royally pissed me off because none of that was conveyed to me. I understand you can't be sure 100% of the time but you do need to let people know you're not sure and this may/may not work.
This was a couple of years ago and I kept the insurance in case of an emergency but I would really hate to take my animals back there due to the revolving vets and poor communication.
The techs are all pretty cool though.
Frequently Asked Questions About Banfield Pet Hospital
Does Banfield provide emergency care services?
No, but you can call us during hospital hours for urgent care advice. Depending on the situation, we can help provide a referral for urgent care, specialty providers, or to an emergency hospital. During non-hospital hours, please contact your local emergency hospital.
Can I get veterinary care online?
To help pets and their people stay healthy, Banfield clients who have Optimum Wellness Plans® can get remote general pet care advice and triage support directly from a veterinarian 24/7 through Vet Chat™ on the Banfield app.
What preventive pet health care services does Banfield offer?
We believe that preventive care is the most effective way to keep your pet healthy throughout all stages of life. Our pet hospitals offer many preventive care treatments, including:
• Vaccinations
• Dental Care
• Parasite Control
• Nutritional Counseling
• Behavioral Counseling
• Comprehensive Examinations
What is an Optimum Wellness Plan?
Optimum Wellness Plans are designed to provide annual preventive care. They include head-to-tail exams, vaccines, early screening diagnostics, consultations for proper nutrition, dental care and more! Since wellness plans are not insurance, they do not include treatment for unpredictable or abnormal conditions, however discounts would apply. Because pets need ongoing preventive care, wellness plans automatically renew at the end of each twelve month period (unless paid in full at enrollment).
How do I pay for an Optimum Wellness Plan?
You can spread the cost of your wellness plan across the 12 months of your annual agreement to make it easier to budget for the essential health care your pet needs. Your monthly payments can be automatically withdrawn from a checking or savings account or charged to a credit card so that you don’t have to worry about them once you enroll. We also offer the option of paying in full if you prefer.
What kind of appointment do I have?
• In-room appointments: You and your pet visit the vet together. Please arrive a few minutes before your appointment time
• Drop-off appointments: If you have a drop-off appointment, we will communicate a time to drop off your pet. Keep your phone nearby and we’ll call you when your pet is ready for pickup.
• Optimum Wellness Plans® Virtual Visits: If you have an Optimum Wellness Plan and scheduled a Virtual Visit, you’ll save valuable time and get quality care from the comfort of your home.
