The lady (Alec, or whatever her name was) who pretended to help me at first said she was the wrong person to ask about fish—which is understandable, since employees can specialize in certain areas. I was planning to buy a few fish, so I asked what the standard number of fish per tank should be. She looked it up on her phone and told me “7 for a 20-gallon tank. So I informed her ” We will actually have fewer than that, because we’re giving away some of the fish we currently own. Then Alec suddenly said, “I can’t sell you fish. It’s not safe for them to be with more than 7.” I confirmed again that we already set some aside, but she responded that “people tend to lie about this.” I was flabbergasted. Are you calling me a liar? I even showed my badge to indicate that I am a professional and have no reason to lie just to buy fish. It’s the kind of behavior an employee shows when they want to harm the place they work for and drive customers away—and she succeeded. I will be taking my business elsewhere. PETCO management, if you read this, you are strongly encouraged to address this behavior.
