I understand that they need to follow the precautions to protect themselves. And I appreciate that they follow the rules to prevent cats from escaping. However, please don’t bring your cats here if you love them. I have been to multiple Vetco locations for both my cats in both San Diego and the Bay Area due to relocation and work schedule. The staff here (not sure if she was the doctor or nurse) was the first human that managed to piss off both of my cats in the past 6 years of their lives. The worst behavior I’ve seen from my cats to strangers before this staff was just hiding in the corner of the carrier, but never scratched or bit like this time. This was how: I offered to help take my cats out of the carrier at the first place but the staff refused, claiming strongly that they were the people to do the job. My carriers had multiple way to open and she chose the worse approach even after I suggested the easiest way. She chose to pulled the cat out of the carrier face to face and from the top of the carrier, while the other staffs from other Vetco did it from the back or the side quickly before the cats noticed. She failed the first one. The tension that she created in the room resulted in my brown tabby biting me when I was too worried and tried to help — she never ever bit me under any conditions in the past 6 years! The staff was able to put the leash on the orange tabby. However, she tried pulling my cat out of the carrier by scuffing the neck — my cats are over 18 lbs that this method could damage their spine. It is also not recommended by vets to scruff an adult cat and I have never done myself that since they were over 12 lbs. I was so worried and so upset when I saw that. I am now so regretted that I didn’t stop the staff because I saw a pitch of hair in the carrier which is definitely not from normal shedding. Obviously my orange tabby felt the pain and scratched the staff (I trimmed her nails two days before so it didn’t create real scratches on the staff). The staff then rejected both of my cats, claiming that my cats won’t be able to receive any services from Vetco unless they receive prescribed medication for calming effects. The staff also commented that cats cannot control their behaviors like dogs, making me believe that she had no experiences and empathy with cat and also discriminated cats against dogs. I strongly insist that Vetco should add a feature in their reservation system highlighting if the staffs offering services have or like cats or not. Nerveless, I won’t trust in Vetco anymore even with their full service hospital.

Had a very bad experience today. The staff clearly didn’t know how to handle cats. One employee tried to yank an adult cat out of her carrier by grabbing her scruff! It caused so much pain to the cat. A quick google would tell you this is painful and unnecessary. Then they refused to provide service because the cats were deemed “aggressive”. We had brought our cats to other Vetco locations before. We have never seen this level of unprofessional behavior. Don’t bring your cats here!
