I took my dog for first time at "Animal Hospital Colma". The doctor after spending 15 to 20 minutes with me and my dog, he gave the prognosis "GUARDER to Grave". In medical terminology, describing a patient’s condition as ranging from "guarded" to "grave" indicates a progression from extreme uncertainty about survival to an expectation of imminent death. These terms are used to define the prognosis—the predicted course of a disease. This is a very bad thing for any vet to say for a dog that does saw for first time for 15 minutes. And my question to the vet is "why should I pay "905$ for my dog if he is ready for the grave"?"

When I was gifted my dog Kaya she was 7 weeks old. My next door neighbor told me abt Banfield. And I have never looked back. Everyone there is so nice and kind. They absolutely love Kaya and watched her grow up.

Banfield has cost me THOUSANDS of dollars in unnecessary care, an ER visit, and an unbelievable amount of stress and heartache, all because of their misdiagnosis and lack of care (and caring). I initially brought my dog in for a dental cleaning, a suspected UTI, and new arthritis medication. Instead, they told me: 1. My dog had dementia 2. She had bone cancer and that I should start thinking about putting her down They prescribed gabapentin for her arthritis. After giving it to her, I found my dog unresponsive, drooling on herself, UNABLE TO STAND OR OPEN HER EYES, and urinating on herself. I immediately called Banfield; they told me the doctor was out and to use their Pet Chat app, which advised me to take her to the ER right away ($$). At the ER, they told me to stop the gabapentin immediately, suspected a UTI (which Banfield was supposedly testing for), and pointed out that my dog’s ears were dirty even though I had just paid Banfield $80 for an ear cleaning. They also found a mass in her mouth that Banfield failed to mention after her dental cleaning. When I followed up with Banfield, said the doctor never followed up, they said they told the doctor AGAIN about how deathly ill this made my dog, yet the doctor has still never returned my call or their “notes to him” (it’s been weeks now). They admitted my dog’s ears weren’t cleaned properly, and said they too would be upset if they paid $80 for an ear cleaning that wasn’t properly done, but refused to redo or refund the service, they said they would only clean them again if I paid another $80. They also told me they never actually ran the UTI test I had requested, only a urinalysis. They told me to test for the UTI they would have to take another urine sample, and I would have to pay for the rapid test, culture and antibiotics which would cost me about $400. I then informed them that the oncologist didn’t get the x-rays. After alllll of that the only thing they seemed emotional about was insisting they had sent my dog’s X-rays (not my dog being rushed to the ER or the doctor not caring, or the poor service my dog received… just the x-rays being emailed to the oncologist). When I was at the oncologist, because Banfield told me my dog had bone cancer, another huge expense. The specialist ran CT scans, bone samples, etc. After all of their test they ended up apologizing saying that everything showed that she had arthritis and that she didn’t have bone cancer and all she needed was new arthritis meds. Which frustrated me because I had been an emotional wreck because of what Banfield told me, they even gave me “the pet quality of life scale” because they told me she need to be put down, and I have done x-rays with Banfield in the past where THEY NOTED that they were seeing arthritis on her x-rays. The oncologist also confirmed my dog showed no signs of dementia and didn’t know why Banfield told me that. I can’t begin to describe the emotional toll this took on me, I was told to consider euthanasia for a dog who simply needed arthritis medication!!!! If I hadn’t been able to afford further testing, I might have believed Banfield and lost her unnecessarily. This is a warning to anyone considering their services, please go somewhere else or at least read the reviews and take them to heart. My experience was BEYOND devastating, both financially and emotionally, and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone else.

Dr Tam the lead vet is misleading and downplayed the situation of our dog leading to its passing. Do not recommend anyone to go to this hospital. Money was never an issue to us, but they kept down playing the situation the multiple times we brought our dog in. I will be filing a complaint with the vet’s board of medicine.
