The staff has been really nice, However, The other day, My dog cannot stand up or walk, The vet would not even willingly take a look at him and wanted to refer me out for a $6000 MRI! Thank God for Florence animal Hospital, who was able to take a look at him And give him a round of medication to which he’s already responding to and we are working on healing up. Not sure how you are able to make a diagnosis without even taking a look at the animal. Do not recommend until they get a new veterinarian!

My wife and I are not one to leave reviews, but the staff and Dr. Summer have been great with all three of our dogs and both of our cats; whether it is vaccine visits or sick visits. We have been going to Center Star for almost ten years and have "heard" the gossip but chose to get to know everyone ourselves. We have never left here like we were just another client and money to them; Dr. Summer always gets in the floor and loves on our babies and takes her time with them. We also never leave without understanding what is going on and everything that has been done; along with any medications we are being sent home with. We are grateful that this group stayed. We just wanted to thank yall.

We had a wonderful experience with both the staff and Dr. Summer over the past month with our sweet 16 year old kitty. He has been super sick and Dr. Summer has taken the time to explain each tests ran and the results and guided us through medical treatment and giving our boy the best quality of life he could have, given his poor prognosis; although today, Heaven gained our sweet boy. We know he was surrounded by love. We can not think the technicians enough for their kindness and Dr. Summer for her knowledge, her empathy, and kindness as well.

When we first started taking our dogs here, we had a male vet and loved him! Its why we swapped and he alone earned that 2nd star. Without him, this place would be one star at best. Unfortunately, we haven't seen him since that first visit. He brought our dog's energy level and quality of life into consideration when deciding the best course of treatment which we genuinely appreciated. The female vet we have dealt with since basically tried to guilt trip us into going a different direction and suggested we keep out dog sedated and crated for the entirety of the treatment. Strike 1 Strikes 2-♾ came earlier this week. One of our other dogs struck up with a cough that got dramatically worse overnight. We got him an appointment for the next day. They did xrays and heartworm test quoting me $195 for it all. The tech came in to tell me that he had a mild case of bronchitis but heartworm was negative. They decided to treat him for kennel cough. This dog was a rescue. He had kennel cough when we adopted him and his cough was never this bad. Also, he nor our other dogs had been anywhere other than our home and fully fenced backyard for months. How did he contract kennel cough, you ask? 🤷‍♀️ "Its like when we go to Walmart and wind up catching covid even though we were never around the sick person". Okay, but we touched things they touched or inhaled droplets from their cough/sneeze for us to get sick. That is not the case here. We live in the middle of nowhere with no close neighbors. It makes no sense. Here is the kicker: the vet never stepped foot in the room. Let me say that again. The vet never even examined my dog. Why? "She has 4 dogs at home and kennel cough is highly contagious". How is that legal? She prescribed medications without even putting her eyes on him. She had her mind made up when we walked in the door. Must be nice to be able to refuse to do your job but still get paid like you did. Now, for the fun part. Remember that estimate of $195 earlier? Good. Its about to come into play. Now I know the estimate doesn't include medications. It is for the tests only. The tech came in with 3 meds. She was calling them off and I'm thinking they can't be too expensive because she isn't mentioning cost so I'm think MAYBE $50 between the 3 but most likely less. At no point was cost mentioned... Then I got to the counter to pay $333.07. Those meds were $138.07 and thats with the "good client discount". They almost doubled the estimate and didn't mention a thing! My total should have had the office visit deducted since the vet couldn't even be bothered to show up. After our first appointment with them, I would have recommended them to anyone. Now I will be warning friends and family to go elsewhere. Worst veterinarian experience I have ever had and I've had some doozies!

I brought my cat to Center Star because he had started urinating outside his litter box. The staff recommended neutering him, so we scheduled the procedure. My cat has FIV, so I asked several questions beforehand because I was concerned about infection risk. I was reassured that neutering a male cat is a very simple procedure. When my husband picked him up later that afternoon, there was blood in the bottom of the carrier. At first he thought it was part of the carrier design, but when he got home and took our cat out, there was blood everywhere and the bleeding would not stop. I immediately called Center Star and was told they were closing and that we needed to take him to the emergency vet. Because the emergency clinic did not open until 6:00 PM and it was only 5:00 PM, I called Helton Plaza Veterinary Clinic for advice. Even though they were closing, the staff member there stayed on the phone with me and helped guide us until we could get to the emergency vet. At the emergency clinic, we were told the bleeding occurred because the surgical site had not been properly tied off. They were able to get the bleeding under control. The next day we returned to Center Star to have my cat checked and to discuss reimbursement for the emergency visit. During that visit, the veterinarian we saw also stated the issue was due to it not being properly tied off. The manager told me this situation “never happens” and said he needed to speak with the veterinarian who performed the surgery before making a decision. From that point forward, communication became extremely frustrating. I was told I would receive a call the next day but did not. I had to call multiple times myself to try to get an answer. I was eventually told they would not reimburse the emergency visit. What has been most disappointing is the lack of communication and accountability. No one from Center Star called to check on my cat after the emergency visit. I had to initiate every follow-up conversation myself. I was also told the veterinarian would speak with me, but when I called back later that afternoon I was informed she had already left for the day. I understand that complications can happen in medicine, and I was initially very understanding about the situation. However, the way this was handled afterward — the lack of follow-up, the lack of communication, and the refusal to take responsibility for the emergency care that resulted — has been very disappointing. Pet owners deserve transparency, communication, and accountability when something goes wrong. Because of how this situation was handled, I am also considering filing a formal complaint with the Alabama State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners so the incident can be reviewed. EDIT AFTER RESPONSE: They stated there was no bleeding at the time of discharge, but as soon as we got him home, he was bleeding. There was no self-trauma. We spoke to two other veterinarians, both of whom confirmed that the incision was not properly tied off. Therefore, the bleeding was not caused by our pet accessing the incision site. We did purchase the collar recommended by your office and paid the additional $30 for it. I understand that accidents can happen in a veterinary office, and I am not upset about the error itself. What I am upset about is how this situation has been handled and the inaccurate response to my review, which does not reflect what actually happened. I have called multiple times and have yet to speak with Dr. Summer. I followed her from Dr. Fisher because I trusted her expertise, but her lack of communication is why I left the review. While a complimentary visit was offered, I was told it had to be on a specific day—the only day available—which I could not accommodate
