10/31/25 Update:
The Chief of Staff, Dr. Nicky, personally contacted me to defend the doctor’s original recommendation rather than acknowledging the mistake or showing accountability. This confirmed to me that Banfield prioritizes protecting its staff’s decisions over patient safety or transparency.
In my experience, care at this clinic is inconsistent — it’s a 50/50 chance whether your pet receives accurate treatment. I strongly urge fellow pet owners to seek a second opinion before proceeding with any MAJOR medical decisions or surgical recommendations from this location.
Please do your due diligence — your pet’s life and well-being may depend on it.
🚨 PET OWNERS BEWARE – Banfield Pet Hospital (University Drive, Huntsville, AL) 🚨
If you truly love your animal, please read this before you ever walk through their doors.
I had one of the most horrifying, unethical, and emotionally draining experiences I’ve ever had with any veterinary clinic — and my story deserves to be heard, especially if it prevents another pet owner from suffering the same heartbreak.
I brought my elderly cat, Aspen, in for what appeared to be a mild eye issue — a small discharge. The first visit went well: a compassionate African American vet treated us with kindness, professionalism, and genuine concern. She explained that Aspen needed further testing (an eye stain) and to return the next day.
The next day, everything changed. That wonderful vet was gone. The new crew was cold, rushed, and lacked all empathy. They came out with urgency and pressure, insisting Aspen’s eye needed to be “enucleated immediately” — meaning surgically removed — and that I needed to make a decision on the spot. The quote? $1,100.
I was absolutely shattered. Aspen is my family. The way they handled it felt predatory and heartless — no explanation, no compassion, just “pay now or she’ll lose her eye.”
I refused to accept that. I took Aspen to another clinic for a second opinion — and guess what?
👉 She did not need surgery.
👉 She did not have an emergency.
👉 She just needed eye drops and ointment.
Today, Aspen is alive, happy, and healthy — because I trusted my instincts over Banfield’s pressure.
💔 This is why I’m writing this: do not let fear tactics or urgency override your gut. Banfield on University Drive felt more like a corporate upsell trap than a place of healing.
To be fair — Matt, and the blonde vet assistant who often wears an oversized zip-up jacket and the ACTUAL vet not nurse practitioner were the only staff members who treated me with decency and care. Outside of them, the culture there feels cold, transactional, and exploitative.
⚠️ PET OWNERS, PLEASE BE WARNED:
•Get a second opinion before you agree to any expensive procedure.
•Don’t be intimidated by their “sense of urgency.”
•This clinic needs accountability — not more unsuspecting customers.
Banfield should be a place of trust and healing, but this location operates like a corporate cash register with stethoscopes.
🐾 Aspen deserved better. Your pet does too.

This Banfield Pet Hospital has nasty benches!! Looks like they haven't been cleaned in years. The staff is not friendly/short nor do I get the feeling that they care for my pet. Some of this staff acts like it just pains them to help me. It takes upto 30 minutes sometimes longer to drop her off and then when I come to pick her up it can take up to all most an hour. Get short answers and no explanation as to some of the medication nor a complete report. They did not give me any papers for my pets visit. It's here's your pet now leave!! I pay almost a$100.00 a month and your staff is ugly and disrespectful!! I would not recommend this peculiar so called Vet to anyone, I would in fact tell them to go to a real Vet who cares and talks to you about what is going on with their family pet members. There's very few vets in the Banfield hospital that care and are compassionate. There are none at this peculiar place!!

I don’t usually write reviews, but the way Banfield cared for our dog Rocco moved me in a way I’ll never forget.
Rocco isn’t just a pet—he’s family. He’s been with us through some of our hardest days and our happiest ones. So when it came time for a check-up and care, we were nervous, as any pet parent would be. But from the moment we walked into Banfield, we felt something different. There was warmth. There was patience. There was love.
The staff didn’t just see Rocco—they understood him. They spoke to him gently, gave him space when he needed it, and comforted him when he was unsure. They talked to us with compassion, explained every step of his care, and treated us not like clients, but like fellow animal lovers trying to do right by someone who can’t speak for themselves.
When we picked Rocco up, he came out tail-wagging, eyes bright, and heart full. And so were ours.
Banfield didn’t just provide medical care—they gave us peace of mind, and more importantly, they showed us that in this world, there are still places where kindness and empathy shine bright. I will never forget how they treated Rocco—with dignity, tenderness, and genuine affection.
If you’re looking for a place that will love your pet like you do, look no further. Thank you, Banfield, from the bottom of our hearts. You made us feel like family—and that’s something we’ll always carry with us. 🐾💛
