VCA was recommended by Seattle Humane shelter where I adopted my kittens. They had a special for free initial appointment and fecal test. While this is true, the prices here are too high for wellness exams and basic vaccines. My kittens needed their FeLV booster shots and they wouldn’t do it without second wellness exam, mind you the first one was a month ago. Why do I have to pay for another wellness exam to confirm the info that was given at initial appointment that I already know? Very unreasonable “policy”. Needless to say I switched to another clinic that is closer to me and has lower prices, even considering I still need to pay for an initial first visit. If I knew all of this I wouldn’t even bother to go to VCA. No issues with the doctor though, they seemed professional as well as the assistant. The pricing and certain “policies” is a major turn off for me.

I've been bringing my puppy to VCA Bellevue for about 4 months now for exams and his vaccines. I have been satisfied with the staff and care of my dog, however the cost are quite high and I believe things that are requested more often than are actually necessary. I asked for an estimate from VCA Bellevue for a neuter surgery, I was given an estimate range that is 3-4 times as expensive as another local private clinic I called. Exams were recommended at each vaccine appointment at VCA, which meant my puppy had an exam every month for 4 months. The new clinic recommended only 1 exam, and then only exams if concerns arise. Everything from vaccine prices, exams, and surgeries were significantly more expensive at VCA compared to this private clinic. I suspect this is not due to such low cost of the other vet, but of the high prices at VCA. Ultimately I felt that I could not trust what was a legitimate medical concern requiring a lab test or exam, and what is a "standard recommendation" and way to generate more revenue, so I have decided to move my dog's care to a different vet. Again I was satisfied with the in-person contact with front desk staff, vet techs and vets, but the high cost and structure of recommendations was not for me. I would recommend calling around before deciding on a vet for your pet so you can understand how pricing and recommendations for care can vary so drastically from clinic to clinic.
