This is complicated. Best Buy I think takes advantage of people who buy laptops there. My mother bought a laptop, HP, I've owned a lot of HP laptops now. I prefer them over other brands, I have experience with computers personally and professionally.
My mother's PC wouldn't boot one day after she fell asleep with it. She does that all the time. This time it went into repair mode, and it wanted a BitLocker ID key. My mom being 81, has trouble with remembering and keeping track of accounts she makes. We couldn't recover her BitLocker key. So I went ahead and went to reinstall Windows 11. Apparently thought the wifi drivers are needed and HP wouldn't give me the .inf file, only and exe, which requires Windows 11 to installed to install, and Windows 11 now requires a log in to install Windows 11. What a nightmare. I didn't have a USB-c Cat5 cable adapter, so I said we should take this to best buy..
Best Buy, they wanted 300.00 to install Windows 11, or we could get their subscription service, for 180.00 and year and they will take care of it. Okay, there this is where a lot of things started to smell fishy. He told me he had another customer with the exact same problem.. The only way to cause a security ID key check is if the hardware changes, BIOS updates, nothing to do with the battery or leaving the computer on. Next he told me that reinstalling windows doesn't mean the BitLocker ID key will be erased, which isn't true. Next he said if you cancel the subscription 180 buck a year right away then you don't the service any more, wth.
Now I have to wonder if anybody should buy a laptop from Best Buy. If their customers commonly get Bitlocker lock out from their drive, with out having a real event to trigger a security lock out. If this is just a way to get more money from customers.

This is a great store. I've been coming here years. Making this review to highlight a young lady with long colorful curly hair at the CS desk who went above and beyond to help me find some Pokémon thing I didn't really understand but got sent to pickup.

Tried to order something online that was in stock but website kept locking up. Other sites worked fine. Could never get temp codes to log into my account. Finally went to the store 24 miles away and found out my item actually wasn't in stock at that very store I was set or would have been set to pickup my Internet order from in an hour. First time in best buy in three years. Last time for another three. They really need to work on their website functionality.

Best Buy has totally forgotten where they came from and turned into a non flexible, non caring, giant mega store entity that is happy with the status quo and doing only what they want to, you can not get anything changed or done that falls outside of the typical need or transaction and basic simple interactions, don’t believe me then try calling them on the 540 number and talking to the store in Roanoke you can not and get transferred to some foreign customer service lines and they can not help with anything unique or dealing with the local Best Buy issues. That being said there really is no where to go in Roanoke to get the same size selection of electronics or their same as any manufacturer or competition pricing matching, their inventory is also the largest around, I’ll put it this way even if you buy a Samsung TV from Samsung they get you to pick it up at and use Best Buy’s stock and inventory, or if you need anything done with your Apple devices and want them to be Apple certified repairs or whatever you have to go here since there is not an Apple Store in Roanoke, so unfortunately they are here to stay and keep doing their new way of business as usual. It’s also not the local employees fault they are great and knowledgeable and hard working, my problem is with the corporate Best Buy and how it does not care about it’s customers like they used to or at all in my case they just always seem to “can’t do anything” about stuff and thats how monopolies and unbalanced trade markets do things. But as stated I use them and it’s frustrating but what are you gonna do if you want that new TV or computer. All the stores I have been in since like the 90s-2000s are all kinda still the same and not worn out but dated and old looking and so is this one it is like 30 years old, but it’s also got a giant hole in the entrance where someone ran into the building or they are adding a pickup center or something but it’s been that way for awhile for some reason, but don’t get me wrong it is not a dump or even bad really just kinda dated but it is also in a good location being in the valley view mall property and just about everything you could want is there and it’s nice for getting all your shopping done in one trip with Staples, Target, and Walmart right beside it, plenty of restaurants and on the bus line ect.
