Absolute ripoff. Went there to make sure my cat is okay. A simple visit fee was $250, they didn’t say anything about cause of symptoms. Advised us to do a blood test and ultrasound. Immediately agreed to $400 bloodwork because I was so worried that my cat might die. The blood test came back normal and the vet told me to get the $1000 ultrasound. She told me that ultrasound sound might also not tell us what’s wrong, then we can do a thyroid test. And even that doesn’t show anything, we can do symptomatic treatments and see if that will make any changes. So I will have to pay all that and go through all that trouble and hurt my cat to still understand nothing about what’s wrong. I asked what she knows about what’s going on with my cat based on the examination and bloodwork, and she would over and over respond with: “I don’t know, I don’t have a crystal ball” Those are the exact words. She would just repeat the symptoms I told them as what she knows about my cat. They don’t even care about your pets. I have never seen that much lack of empathy for a cat coming from a vet whose job is to help, love, and treat them. I have never felt this scammed in my life. Please do not visit them. They really overcharge everything and take advantage of your confusion and nervousness and care for your pet just to make a lot of money off of you.

I’d like to sincerely thank VCA SouthPaws and the excellent team that took care of my dog during a nearly 5-day critical stay at the hospital. My 6-year old golden was suffering from a critical, possibly fatal acute kidney injury and VCA was able to bring him back to near full recovery! Thank you so much! In addition, do not pay mind to most of the 1-star reviews. Most are crying about the exorbitant cost of what is essentially the only 24-hour critical care specialized vet hospital in the area. Veterinary medicine is expensive! This is why it’s absolutely crucial that you get your dog or cat top-tier pet insurance. Sure, it’s expensive short-term, but definitely not worth risking having to euthanize just because you can’t pay for it.

Our dog quickly developed several medical issues and complications. We brought him to SouthPaws and they did an amazing job to help him recover from a serious infection and treat his ongoing issues. We needed to work with several specialists and they were all excellent. I’m so glad we trusted them, as the tests and treatments they recommended were all exactly what was needed. All the staff we work with are kind to our dog and with us. I highly recommend SouthPaws!

I highly recommend VCA. The vets and staff were so kind and supportive. They took the time to answer all of our questions and patiently explained all of our options. We had to make some very difficult decisions and I could not have asked for better care for our beloved dog. For anyone reading this, I know it’s so stressful to need emergency care for our fur babies. I can’t say VCA was inexpensive, but I can say they treated our beloved golden doodle with all the care in the world. Highly recommend.

Death due to CHA, which was overlooked. We brought our nearly 15-year-old dog to this clinic due to persistent panting. Given his age and cancer history, we were concerned and wanted a thorough evaluation. We spoke in detail with the front office about his symptoms, paid for X-rays, and a veterinary visit with a specialist. We spent over $1,200 during this appointment. We were told the results did not show anything immediately life-threatening and were advised to see an internal medicine specialist about the panting—after the visit and expense. At no point did the veterinarian raise concerns about potential cardiac issues, recommend cardiac testing, or discuss trial medications that could have addressed a possible heart-related cause for his symptoms. Concerned, we sought a second opinion at another clinic. Unfortunately, before we could even get an appointment, our dog passed away suddenly from cardiac arrest just weeks later. After processing the shock and loss, my mother-in-law—an RN—asked a simple but painful question: why was cardiac health not more closely evaluated, given that panting in an elderly dog is a well-known potential indicator of heart issues? No follow-up questions, diagnostics, or preventative measures were offered. We trusted this clinic to look beyond surface results and consider age-related risks holistically. Had cardiac causes been taken seriously, there may have been options to improve or extend our dog’s quality of life. Instead, we were left with unanswered questions and the feeling that critical warning signs were overlooked. We would urge other pet owners—especially those with senior dogs—to advocate strongly and ask specifically about heart health, because in our case, it was not adequately addressed. Vets at this clinic need to pay more holistic attention to their patients. We think we lost our furbaby prematurely because this was not done.
