We took our dog here last night hailing from Dubuque, Iowa - as this is the closest emergency vet service in our area. I want to commend and thank all the staff for a wonderful job they did on our standard poodle Ollie. He came in with a nasty bite wound from another dog while we were out on a walk. On the way there I called to let them know we were coming. The receptionist that was on the phone couldn’t have been nicer - getting all the details, and reassuring me they would take care of him and made me feel so much better before arriving. When our animals are in situations like this, it can be so scary and nerve wracking. Once we arrived, They immediately got us into a room and a nurse came in to address him and shortly after the amazing Dr Hannah Brinkman came and quickly sprung into action to address his wound. We can’t thank them enough for their kindness, calmness, and professional manner all of the staff conducted themselves with. Although our sweet boy had to go through a surgery and get stitched up, I knew he was well cared for. Thank you VCA clinics, we will be back whenever we (hopefully) don’t need you in the future.

After years of wonderful care at this ER vet, our most recent visit was terrible. I sat in the waiting room for over an hour with a very sick cat in an open cardboard box on my lap. He was so ill he didn’t need to be enclosed—something that, in my opinion, should have prompted at least a quick check from a staff member. During that time, techs came out to check on two dogs that arrived after we did, yet no one looked at or asked about the cat in the box.
When we arrived, I was already about 98% certain we would be facing euthanasia. Instead, to make a long story short, I was given false hope, charged over $3,000 for an overnight stay, and ultimately returned to pick up a deceased cat. The doctor who came on duty the next day said exactly what I had expected to hear the night before and recommended euthanasia. Had he been the one to assess our cat when we first arrived, I am confident the experience would have been far better. The outcome would have been the same, but the cost would have been around $200, and I would not feel misled or still be frustrated months later.
When I received a survey about our visit, I decided to wait until I had calmed down before completing it. Once I felt ready to give a fair assessment, I searched for the survey in my email but couldn’t find it. I called the vet and asked for another copy to be sent, but I never received one. More months have passed, and I remain angry and disappointed by what happened. As I mentioned, we had years of positive experiences at this vet before this incident. Going forward, we will be seeking care elsewhere.

Waited for nearly 3 hours. My dog was lethargic laying on the floor whimpering contact. NEVER even triaged. Had to leave as he was clearly declining and they said "I'm sorry. We are under staffed and busy. We will get to him when we can. HORRIBLE RESPONSE WHEN HE IS CLEARLY SUFFERING.

Huge shoutout to Murphy, who was incredible at handling a stressed furbaby mom after Toby ate a plastic eyeglass frame.

Was initially referred to VCA by my local vet when my dog needed after-hours emergency services, and have stuck with them for IM and emergency care ever since. Even if the outcomes weren’t as positive, I would absolutely still give VCA 5 stars.
Every single person on staff has been phenomenal to work with. Communication from front desk and clinical staff always exceeds expectations. Costs are transparent and reasonable. Never felt like I was being pushed into unnecessary tests, etc. as I experienced elsewhere.
Most importantly, I want to give special thanks for VCA staff that work atypical hours. Pet owners needing emergency care usually don’t have the bandwidth to consider how much you guys sacrifice to do such incredible work. You all are amazing!
