I bought this MacBook Pro for my son only 4 months ago, and he barely even used it except for homework at home. Somehow the battery started overheating and swelling, and now the case is slightly bent. We noticed the issue just a month or two after buying it. What’s really frustrating is that Apple immediately says it’s “not their fault” and refuses to cover it under warranty. The employee literally suggested putting plastic around the bottom hinge and continuing to use it instead of properly fixing it. How is that an acceptable solution for a laptop that’s practically brand new? Now Apple expects us to pay $650 out of pocket for something that clearly wasn’t caused by us. Meanwhile, when my Samsung phone screen broke, Samsung still honored the warranty because there was no sign of external damage. I’ve been an Apple customer for years — buying new iPhones and MacBooks almost every year through trade-ins — but this experience is beyond disappointing. Apple products shouldn’t start having serious issues like swollen batteries and bent cases after only a few months, and customers shouldn’t automatically be blamed for manufacturing defects. After this experience, I seriously don’t see myself buying Apple products again.

Today I came in today to check on my MacBook Pro to see what was wrong with it. What had happened is I was on the couch and I heard a pop coming from the kitchen. I did not think much of it until I went over to my laptop and noticed the screen was out. Nothing had fallen on it, nothing had hit it, it was not dropped, and I had used it only an hour or so earlier with no issues. The screen simply stopped working. The rest of the computer works fine. The computer is out of warranty, and so I mainly wanted to see what had happened and what the price range was. I assumed i would have to pay and was not expecting any amount of free services, nor did I ask for any during my visit. My appointment was at 7:55, and the person checking on my laptop showed up 25 minutes late. Then, he immediately told me how much it was to fix, to which I asked him what the issue was with the laptop. He simply responded "the screen is broken". When I asked him to see if there was anything wrong with it systemically that caused the screen to break, he sighed at me after telling me what the labor cost was before going and checking after I asked for him to check a few times. When he came back he showed me a picture of the laptops insides, which is fine, but I asked him if he knew what was wrong with the screen to which he said "it's broke". My goal in asking these questions was to simply see if buying a new screen was worth it, because I did not know what had caused the problem in the first place. I did not want a similar thing to happen again, and so wanted an explanation. Every time I asked a follow up question he would say "look man I wasn't there I don't know what happened." He never really gave me any of the technical answers I was looking for or any amount of explanations. Eventually, exasperated I said "screens don't break themselves", to mean "I want a technical explanation", to which he said "I agree they don't do they?" Which I found rude and semi accusatory, especially given why the laptop broke matters little in a financial sense due to it being out of warranty. About 3 years ago I worked as an IT guy and got laptops refurbished all the time at Fashion Place, and everyone was so kind to me. Even today, many of the staff helped me out outside of the technician. I know how hard it can be to be a technician and how rude people can treat the staff. However I am writing because this is the worst experience I have ever had with a technician.

I made an appointment ahead of time. It still took an hour and half for someone to help me. Employees continued to walk by me and just stood around and chatted with each other. No one even acknowledged me once when I was at the Genius Bar, until I said I had been waiting so long. They got to me after closing and then told me my laptop that I previously thought only needed a battery replacement, also needed a logic board replacement and the repairs were more than it’s worth. I would’ve liked to have known than an hour and half before when it was a simple two minute evaluation.

I know this review will get buried what a joke this store is. Absolutely no help. So many "geniuses" just standing around doing absolutely nothing!

My IPhone 17 locked me out and couldn’t remember my password. Two guys I want to give a shout out to for helping me today, Josh and Gavin. These two helped with my appointment and got my phone unlocked. Many of the other guys working there were not helpful but these two were. Thank you!
