This will most likely be our last visit to VCA Leon Springs, which is disappointing because we have trusted this hospital with our dogs for years. We have spent a significant amount of money here, they have cared for several of our pets, and they have even helped our family through the incredibly difficult process of putting pets down. That history is exactly why this visit was so disappointing.
We brought our dog, Remi, in for her allergy shot. Remi has significant allergies, and when they flare up, her ears become irritated and painful. These issues go hand in hand for her.
At the beginning of the visit, I physically handed the technician medication that Remi had previously been prescribed and asked whether it came from VCA. I specifically wanted them to check it and, if appropriate, get us a refill because Remi was having problems with her ears.
The response and attitude made it feel like we were inconveniencing someone by asking.
We waited through the entire appointment. At checkout, I had to bring the medication up AGAIN because nobody ever came back to us about it. Only then were we told, with what came across as a frustrated sigh, that dealing with her ears and medication would require a different visit.
Seriously?
Why wasn’t that explained when I handed you the medication at the beginning of the appointment?
Had someone simply said, “Remi needs to be seen by the doctor for this, would you like us to see if we can accommodate that today?” we absolutely would have done it. Instead, we completed the visit and walked out with the same problem we specifically brought to their attention when we arrived.
That’s the part I can’t understand.
This wasn’t us mentioning something random on the way out the door. We brought the medication with us. We explained the problem. Our dog was uncomfortable. They had the entire visit to communicate with us, offer an option, get a doctor involved, or at minimum explain what needed to happen next.
Instead, we got attitude and an explanation at checkout.
I work in a service business myself, and if one of my customers told my team about a problem at the beginning of a visit and we waited until checkout to tell them, “That’s actually another appointment,” I’d expect that customer to be upset too. I certainly wouldn’t expect them to pay us again without questioning how we handled the first visit.
Good customer service isn’t about giving everything away for free. It’s about listening, communicating, and trying to solve the problem in front of you.
After years of trusting VCA Leon Springs with our animals, this experience left us feeling like Remi was a transaction instead of a patient.
I’m hoping management reaches out, reviews what happened, and makes this right. At a minimum, I believe they should address the additional visit/cost that we now have to deal with because this wasn’t communicated when we first brought the issue to their attention.
Right now, though, I can’t recommend VCA Leon Springs based on how Remi’s visit was handled, and after years of being customers, that’s pretty sad.
