  Dr. Kirkpatrick is truly the best. He has taken such great care of our babies. He is thorough, compassionate, empathetic, and patient. He explains all of the options and scenarios available to help assist you with shared decision making. He is an amazing person and an amazing Vet.

  ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Dr. Dunn is the kind of vet you hope every pet gets lucky enough to have. What sets Dr. Dunn apart isn’t just his knowledge — it’s that he actually follows through. When Poppy has had smaller issues, he checks back in on his own, without me having to chase anyone down. That kind of unprompted follow-up is rare and means everything when you’re a worried pet owner. When Poppy had a serious situation that landed her at the emergency hospital over the weekend, Dr. Dunn didn’t disappear until Monday. He coordinated directly with the ER team and kept me informed every step of the way — breaking down what was happening in plain language so I never felt lost or alone in the process. Having him in my corner during one of the most stressful experiences I’ve had as a pet owner made a real difference. His medical expertise is evident, but what makes him exceptional is that he clearly sees Poppy as a patient who matters — not just a chart to be handled and moved along. If you want a vet who is genuinely invested in your pet’s wellbeing, Dr. Dunn at VCA Lakewood is the one.

  I booked an appt for my 2 dogs using their free first visit offer. They contacted me after I made my appointment and said you can send your medical records for your dogs ahead of time but says it’s not required. So I did not do that. I showed up to my appointment and the receptionist told me they couldn’t see me without the records. So I said OK well, I guess this isn’t going to work out and then she said we’ll wait let me check. Then she checked and they said OK. We can see you without the medical records. But then when they found out, I didn’t need to get any vaccines and just needed a new prescription for flea medicine Then that’s when they told me that they required a heartworm test for my dogs at $100 each. That’s ridiculously expensive for a heartworm test. I knew there had to be a catch when they offered a free first visit. So I just wasted 30 minutes of my day. My dogs are currently on heartworm prevention. So they clearly care more about getting money than they do about actually getting a new client. Don’t offer a free first visit if you’re going to have all these hidden charges or fees when people show up. When I commented how expensive it was, she whispered to me well, this is Lakewood. So they know they’re ridiculously priced.

  I initially felt that the focus was on other matters rather than engaging with me. Although I was eventually welcomed upon entering, the overall experience was inconsistent. I had to repeat myself more than once, which was frustrating. Due to this experience, I do not plan to return any time soon.
