My dog experienced an emergency that I rushed him to VCA Metzger late on a weekend night for. He was treated over the weekend but some sort of complication occurred that required extensive followup care which kept him at the hospital for a week. The associated fees were steep for a single income household like mine but the staff were VERY accommodating. I owe my dog's life to the hospital management for working with me so he could get what he needed. That alone is worth 5 stars but they were all so great and caring with my boy, too. He's a very anxious and often aggressive dog toward people he doesn't know, and yet he was a sweetheart with everyone the whole time he was there. The staff really seemed to care about him and knew how to interact with him to help him feel safe. I've since switched my vet services to VCA Metzger because they've been so great with him. I strongly recommend this place. It'd be remarkable just for one person to go above and beyond but everyone there did for him.

The lack of empathy at Metzger Animal Hospital is staggering. I rushed my pet here because she was vomiting what could only be assumed to be blood, and I made sure to call ahead so they knew we were coming. Instead of being met with a medical team ready to help, we were treated with total indifference.
When we arrived they informed us we would have a 2-2.5hr wait to be seen. They referred us to another clinic they were well aware was already overflowing with critical cases. I called the second clinic from waiting room and was informed they had a 5hr wait time, and we opted to stay at Metzger's. Within 2 minutes of making the choice to stay, the receptionist "regretfully" informed us that our wait time was now going to be at leat 5 hours. How? Especially, when nobody else had walked in since we entered the building, and a max of 7 cars in the lot (assuming multiple cars were employee vehicles), and she was never triaged. They sat us behind walk-ins who were not in distress, showing no regard for the fact that every minute counts when an animal is potentially bleeding internally. It felt like a business transaction rather than a life-saving facility. My pet deserved compassion and immediate triage, and Metzger’s failed on both counts. I wouldn't trust them with a critical situation again.

We had to say goodbye to our Enzo on Saturday. The doctor and staff were so kind and compassionate. They explained the situation and our options and allowed us all the time we needed to make our decision and say goodbye. I can’t thank them enough for making his last hours as comfortable as possible and for helping him transition peacefully.

If you have a pet emergency and can go somewhere else, do it. The only good thing I have to say is that they are open 24/7 and can stabilize an ill or injured pet. Aside from that I had a horrible experience. Years ago I used them and it was amazing. 100% positive experience. Being part of VCA now has apparently made a significant difference. Some examples of my experience: having to tell staff 4 different times what meds my dog was on (did no one write it down or put it in the computer?), getting test results with bad news from a doctor who has no compassion or feeling as if he was talking about an object AND being given only minimal info and having to ask a multitude of questions just to make sense of things myself. No guidance at all to make an informed decision (which is hard when you have so little to work with!). Finding out your dog has cancer from a different person than the one who gave you the news and used the terms mass and tumor (not all tumors are cancerous), so kind of a big deal. Being prescribed Prednisone, but no explanation as to why and what it is expected to do, and being sent home before the dog was confirmed to be stable. It blows my mind that they found 4 "tumors" in my dog and couldn't offer me any information on what my options were, what their educated guess was regarding the diagnosis and outcome, and then prescribing a med with no information as to why. I can see why these people are not in human healthcare because because manner is non existent. They need to figure out that some of us love our pets as if they were our own flesh and blood! I will not ever use them again!

Very impressed with the compassionate team here from the doctors to technicians and front desk staff. Dr. Martinez and Dr. Ervine were amazing and I’m so grateful that we were initially in their care! Unfortunately, I can’t say the same for Dr. Wasson who could never find time to come into the room and discuss any next steps about my dog’s critical care plan. I was there for hours visiting and determining next steps and never once met her or spoke to her. So much so that I had to contact other doctors for advice. Kudos to your technicians for doing all of her work and having the conversations for her. She clearly lacks compassion that is absolutely necessary in this field & this came across as though she knew she wouldn’t be profiting on additional services as we needed to get to a specialist.
