I recently transferred to VCA Santa Fe from VCA Lakewood in Dallas due to us relocating to NM. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. We enjoyed meeting Dr Stratton and look forward to her managing our senior dog’s care. We had a great experience at VCA Lakewood with Dr Kirkpatrick, so the change is challenging but I feel better after our first visit to VCA in Santa Fe.

Low vibe veterinary clinic. Childish office staff. High turnover. Maybe it goes along with the constant upselling? There has got to be some sort of corporate push on VCA affiliate veterinary clinics to upsell everything, from procedures to products, because I've never experienced anything like it with any other vet practice. Be canny when discussing procedures like canine teeth cleanings (ask the vet if your dog has visible plaque / tartar buildup), and make sure you get the FULL cost estimate ahead of time before you schedule anything. Discuss each thing they want to prescribe and charge you for, as some may not be strictly necessary. If you feel your dog needs the cleaning, get estimates from a couple other vet clinics. Another tip: if getting a heart worm test and a prescription for flea & tick meds (eg, Simparica Trio), before leaving the office be sure to request a written copy of the prescription (they "don't provide digital copies" or via the VCA app) so you can use it at Chewy.com or other online pet pharmacy service for the exact same product at a lower price. I gave 2 stars because the vets are okay, but not super personable. We saw so many different vets over the years with this practice and never felt like we had an actual relationship with any of them. Add to that the weird upselling of unnecessary services and meds... Can you really trust them? And at those prices? No thanks. Our dog & cat deserve better and, honestly, so do we. But don't just take my word -- read the other negative reviews: is there an echo in here?

I have only visited this office once but I was very happy with the service. My dog had a wound that needed addressing and fairly quickly. I called her normal vet's office twice and the second time they told me they could not see her and to try somewhere else. I was able to schedule a same day appointment here, even though she was not an established patient. The vet saw her and addressed the issue. They even gave her a rabies shot when I asked, since she was due. I was already happy with the service but was even more impressed when someone from the office texted me to check in on her a couple days later. I will continue to take my dog here.
