  Just go to Elk River and dont waste your time with this emergency department. I could go on about the incompetent staff, the nurse who didn't know how to read a blood panel or the phlebotomist who can't count, but it's a waste and you won't read it. Simply, if you care about your health, or the health of whoever you are supporting, then you won't take them here unless you absolutely have to.

  I had horrible pain Sunday night and wanted to get to nearest ER which was Monticello. I ended up with a bowel obstruction and needed surgery so I was admitted and stay until Wednesday. I have worked in healthcare my entire life ( now retired at 69) and this hospital was amazing. I stay on the 2 nd floor med/surg unit and cannot say enough about the amazing staff. All the nurses and CNA’s were fantastic. The room and unit was very clean and every team member was great. My career had me in large academic medical centers so I was leery of a small hospital but no more. I would send any of my loved ones here.

  I will give it a two because there were nurses that did a good job, and the Dr's were very good. My husband was put in with pneumonia and beginning of septis from the emergency room. The Dr's were very good at treating him and day staff throughout the weekend. He was to be in a couple of more days today until I questioned and requested that they needed to walk him. The Dr said to walk 4 times yesterday, which they did not do and he ended up with oxygen in the overnight. The RT came to walk him this morning and informed me that it didn't matter what the Dr wanted, she was to busy to do more than one. In the mean time we were told he could only walk with staff. That quickly changed when I made it clear that he needed it and his oxygen numbers were to be taken per orders. We did not see any staff the rest of the morning, the Dr came in at 12:45 pm saying he will be discharged. I then asked about his IV antibiotics that were left for the day. She said she ordered a oral one to take at home. They checked his vitals, took IV port out, proceeded to get him discharged in an hr. The orders were always being modified by nurses and then the Dr did a 180 today. He was stuck in a room since Fri and was giving all sorts of meds but with pneumonia walking is so very important. I bought a oxygen reader for at home, and will watch it. If he does end up going south I will take him to the burbs. When they say numbers matter and the way the patient feels. No it is numbers matter and just do as your told with no questions to some of their staff.

  I brought my daughter into the ER the day after Christmas and the nurse Jess was amazing! She took really good care of my daughter and Im sure glad she was our nurse. Keep up the good work Jess!

  I went to the emergency department for a severe migraine. The receptionist was incredible. Such a kind lady. The ER doctor was wonderful as well. I must say though the male nurse I encountered was very unpleasant. He acted like he hated his job. Absolutely no bedside manner or compassion was shown even when he blew two veins and i was scared wondering what was happening. He was putting an IV in without gloves which I thought was odd. One of the IV failed spots bled profusely through the bandage and that was when he decided to put gloves on. I was very shocked he said he had 27 years experience with most of it being in ambulance medicine. That was the only reassuring thing reassuring me. I have never had an IV placement hurt the way it did. I didn't need to be coddled but he was pretty silent except for saying things like "that might be all the blood your going to give me. Hmmm" with no further explanation. When I asked for things to be explained it was almost as if he seemed bothered.
