  It’s been 6 years now since my girl Rose has had to be put down due to cancer here, but I will never forget the care, attentiveness, respect and dedication they showed throughout the previous 10 years she was a patient there. Rose was a pitbull but despite the stigma extremely friendly, we would joke that if someone broke into our house she would just leave with the thieves, she was that friendly. And we still reminisce about how everyone there knew her and one time as soon as she walked in a technician exclaimed, “oh my god! It’s Rose” and she was so so happy she practically jumped to wait her turn because she knew the routine already. I wish I remembered that techs name but thank you for all of your years of care for my love Rose.

  Dr. Fischer was very kind and informative. I brought my congested cat as a same day appointment and everyone was so nice and patient with my scared kitty. I am so grateful for how calm she was at the vet. Thank you so much! Let’s hope the antibiotics work! I’d definitely recommend VCA to anyone with an anxious cat.

  Our experiences with VCA Abbott Animal Hospital have been absolutely devastating. After what happened with both of our cats, we will never step foot in this office again. Our first experience involved our older cat, whose health was clearly declining. VCA put us through test after test, imaging, etc, charging us an outrageous amount of money while still failing to fully determine what was actually wrong with him. Despite all of the testing and expense, his condition continued to deteriorate. We were sent home with medication that didn’t help anything, and his health continued to worsen while we followed the treatment plan we had been given. Ultimately, our cat suffered a terrifying and traumatic death at home. We reached out directly to the veterinarian while he was actively dying, hoping for even the smallest amount of guidance, empathy, or compassion. We received none. There was no meaningful support, no solace, and no sense that anyone at this practice understood what our family had just experienced. Even more disturbing, the office never reached out to us after his death—not a phone call, not a condolence, nothing. The only communication we received was automated emails asking us to bring our dead cat in for checkups. That alone says everything about how impersonal and disconnected this practice feels. Unfortunately, we gave them another chance with our other cat. She suddenly developed a severe limp. I could actually feel crepitus in her hip with barely any contact while she was walking. We brought her in, and the veterinarian barely examined her affected leg. Despite the obvious orthopedic concern, we were told it was likely muscular and sent home with pain medication. The visit cost us over $300, and the medication made little to no difference. For days, our cat continued to deteriorate. We brought her back because there was clearly something seriously wrong. They finally agreed to perform imaging. We were quoted a little over $500. When we went to pick her up, the bill was nearly $750, with no advance warning that the cost was going to be substantially higher. The imaging finally showed what should have been taken seriously from the beginning: she had fractured the head of her femur. When we questioned why this hadn’t been identified during the first visit, the veterinarian offered the excuse that our cat was supposedly too painful for a proper evaluation. That simply was not our experience of what happened. She was examined very minimally, and the affected leg was barely assessed. To us, this wasn’t a case of an impossible diagnosis—it was a failure to perform a thorough examination in the first place. Now our cat needs surgery. She has spent unnecessary days in pain, and this surgery could potentially have been scheduled and completed days ago if her injury had been properly investigated at the first appointment. This office also refuses to allow prescriptions to be filled through reputable outside pharmacies such as Chewy or Amazon and instead requires clients to purchase medications directly through them, at prices that can be dramatically higher than what the same medications cost elsewhere. When you’re already spending hundreds or thousands of dollars on veterinary care, this feels less like patient care and more like a revenue strategy. At this point, we’ve had enough. We have spent an enormous amount of money with this practice. We would have gladly spent every penny if it meant our animals were receiving exceptional care. Our experiences have left us feeling that money comes before medicine, thoroughness, and compassion at VCA Abbott Animal Hospital. We will never return to VCA Abbott Animal Hospital, and we strongly encourage other pet owners to think twice before trusting this office with an animal they love. If you care about your pet, do yourself a favor and go literally anywhere else.
