Alexis at the front desk is extremely rude. Not welcoming to clients from the Washington Square Location. I used to drop by to see if they had my cats food and take it with me with no problems. Today they were extremely unfriendly when I tried to do this. They said I should call in advance - which I did and was sent to the pharmacy who didn’t answer. I decided to drop by anyways. They made it clear they were busy and recommended I set up home delivery and that I should call the pharmacy and wait 24 hours. I asked to clarify that I can’t drop by to check the food they keep up front and she rudely said and repeated “these are our policies at this location so you’ll have to follow them”. I wasn’t sure if I was going to the new location but I am now. I recommend finding a place that will treat you and your pet kindly. The most unwelcoming vet I’ve visited in a long time.

I take both of my cats here, and during my time have met with multiple vets & techs. Everyone who I have ever interacted with has been incredibly kind, so sweet to my cats, and explain everything in easy to understand terms. I really feel like they do a great job at demystifying my cat’s needs. And, they have incredibly fair pricing. I truly will never go to another vet again. Thank you!

Our cat has not received great care here, most recently, when she had stomach upset, the team in consulting a vet on site told us to just go to the ER, where we were later told to send her to a primary vet instead in the future to avoid high costs. Our cat just needed fluids and probiotics, and we could have avoided a stressful and expensive ER visit if VCA had fit us in. From our direct experience with Dr. Groper and accounts of friends, we’ve heard negative experiences about condescending and also careless treatment (for us, not re-checking kidney values at an annual visit when they were abnormal a prior time). I will say several of the staff at the front and Dr. Mani and Dr. Kruskall have shown great care and more thorough treatment, but we decided to transfer our cat’s primary care to MSPCA Angell, which has been more reliable to friends and also during our ER visit.

We brought our cat in after she seemed to be declining from some sort of illness. From the beginning, the experience was not great. We previously brought our cats to VCA Metro Cat Brookline before they shut down and “moved” to this location. When I called, I was told this would be considered a scheduled office visit (I was concerned it would be treated like an emergency visit and billed as such). We arrived and it was treated like an emergency visit. We waited for about 90 minutes (despite no one in the waiting room) with minimal communication until we were finally seen by the doctor (Dr. Groper). The doctor looked in her ears and at her eyes but not at her mouth despite me mentioning that her mouth seemed to be bothering her and we had noticed an odor. The vet cleaned out her ears, prescribed her some ear drops and fish oil that we did not ask for, and stated that she just has bad allergies and her symptoms are due to stress. The bill for all that was close to $600 and a waste of time. She continued to decline over the next day or so because she had not received any meaningful care to address the underlying problem. Brought her to a different vet. They immediately looked in her mouth and saw infected, oozing ulcers. So frustrated by the lack of patient-centered care and the bedside manner of the vet we worked with. He was extremely condescending and did not bother to listen. As someone who works as a nurse, that bothers me. Seems like care and compassion should be at the core of taking care of another living being. Go to VEG in Needham instead, especially if you have a cat, because this establishment appears to cater heavily to dogs and minimally to cats.

I brought my Yorkie mix in because she was having an issue with her ear. She is normally excellent during veterinary and grooming appointments. She happily interacted with the receptionist and the veterinary nurse, but as soon as the veterinarian came in, my dog became very uncomfortable and repeatedly pulled her head away whenever the doctor tried to touch her. The veterinarian claimed my dog bit her, which is simply not true. My dog never bit anyone she only pulled her head back to avoid being touched. The veterinarian then put a muzzle on my dog, even though she has never needed or worn one before. Instead of helping, it only made my dog more frightened and stressed. After that, the veterinarian gave up and said she couldn’t perform the exam because my dog wouldn’t let her look at her ear. Despite never examining the ear or telling me what was wrong, I was still charged an exam fee. I’m left wondering what exactly I paid for, since no examination was completed and I left without any answers or treatment. The entire experience was disappointing and frustrating. I came in expecting my dog’s ear to be evaluated, but instead left with no diagnosis, no explanation, and a bill for an exam that was never actually performed.
