We don’t have enough words to describe how AMAZING Dr. Cross and his team in neurology have been over the past year. For two years, while we were living in California, our German Shepherd, Ruby, was misdiagnosed by several doctors with what we were told were inflammation and old age issues. Things got so bad that she could barely walk on some days. She was 7 years old at the time, and we were sure the end was near. She had gone from being an active and rambunctious girl to just lying on the floor. Every morning, she would cry at the top of her lungs when she had to get up off the floor, as well as throughout the day any time she had to get up.
From the start, Dr. Cross knew exactly what was going on. He ordered tests, CT scans, and bloodwork, and within five hours that same day, we knew what was wrong with her—which had nothing to do with her age or inflammation. Nowadays, while she is still on a minimal amount of medication, Ruby runs up and down stairs, plays around, and chases her ball like she is still a puppy. She will be turning 9 years old next month, but she is as active as she was as a young pup.
Thank you so much, Dr. Cross, Amanda, and Whitney, for your patience, for answering our emails, for following up with every prescription refill, and for treating our girl with the dignity she deserves. We are eternally grateful to you for giving us our Ruby back.
The front desk staff is wonderful as well! Amazing they are always smiling even when the waiting room is packed with inpatient dogs and their owners.
Overall VCA Fishers has been AMAZING. Worth the 45 minutes drive in each direction.

Absolutely worst experience I’ve ever had an emergency vet. I was referred from another VCA in college park for a specific medication for pancreatitis. Upon arriving at the Fisher VCA, I waited over an hour to find out that the two doctors on call. We’re getting ready to leave in approximately 15 minutes. The overnight vet would be arriving in another 15 minutes, But would have to see all the existing dogs before mine. The vet tech had my dog was in the most critical condition of all the dogs there. I can’t believe they couldn’t find time to at least look at him in excess if he needed immediate attention. I left there and went to VEG in Nora and had a great experience there. I will never come back here due to their unprofessionalism and uncaring attitude. The only saving grace at this facility is the vet tech who met with me and helped me find a good place for my dog. I have had dogs my entire life and never have experienced this level of bad care.

We were recommended here to see Dr. Tobias because our boy Remy was having a bit of lameness to his right hind leg and x-rays showed possible hip dysplasia.
They had to sedate him to redo his x-ray's and perform an exam. They were very great at communication and got him done fairly quickly.
She was very thorough and took her time to really explain things and give us the opportunity to ask questions.
Highly recommend if you are in need of an orthopedic doctor for your fur babies.

After waiting 5 hours, all they did was take our dog’s temperature. There was no urgency, no communication, and no real care shown. We only got updates when I went up to the front desk to complain, and each time it was the same response: “we’re understaffed.”
We were told to keep waiting because there were “more critical” patients, yet no one reassessed or checked on him. Less than 24 hours later, he passed away.
We ended up going somewhere else and received treatment within an hour — which made this experience even more frustrating and unacceptable.
I understand places get busy, but lack of staffing should not come at the expense of basic care and attention.
Do not bring your pet here if you expect urgency or attentive care.
My wife and I brought our dog in to be examined because we thought she was having a seizure. Come to find out she was not having a seizure but was suffering from vestibular disease. While obviously upset at the trauma of watching our dog stiffen up, eyes rolling, urinating on herself, and puking we got to sit in the exam room and listen to a staff member in the back say in a laughing manner “oh my god, the vestibular dog is just flopping around like a fish”.
We addressed the issue with the Dr and she said she handled it but I don’t feel like that is enough. We came to VCA and paid our hard earned money for our animal to receive the best care and instead we hear our dog who is suffering being made fun of.
In the end, our dog had to be euthanized. If she had not been in such bad shape we would have left but we didn’t want to make our dog suffer anymore. I sincerely hope that the staff at VCA will learn to be more compassionate for their clients. They may be desensitized to the health issues that many animals face but pet owners are not and it can be traumatic.
