This company merged with Wise Road vet and since then it’s been really hard to make appts especially last minute. I was a previous Wise Road customer and loved them since they were so small. Now it’s extremely frustrating getting seen. Their prices have also gone up significantly since their transition. The only reason I kept this vet is because I LOVE Dr Rick DeCraene so much. He is extremely knowledgeable, intelligent and compassionate when it comes to my pets care. One of my cats has urinary blockages and I feel like the doctor really tries to help us as much as possible. If I call him to speak to him on the phone he does take the time to explain everything. I’m extremely grateful for him and all his support with our difficult situation. I will follow this doctor anywhere. He is the biggest asset to that company and I truly believe he cares so much for pets.

I had a very disappointing experience with VCA Schaumburg Animal Hospital during a medication emergency with my dachshund.
I accidentally gave my dog one of my medications and immediately called the clinic. They told me to bring him in right away, so I rushed him there. My dog had ingested the pill less than an hour earlier and only needed a simple injection to induce vomiting.
I have been a loyal VCA CareClub member for four years and recently upgraded my dog’s plan to include dental coverage, paying $119 per month. Despite that loyalty and being told to come in, when I arrived they refused to treat him and instead handed me a list of other veterinary clinics.
In an emergency situation where every minute matters, this was incredibly stressful and disappointing.
I then rushed my dog to Thrive Pet Healthcare, where they immediately took him to the back and gave him the shot to make him vomit the pill. Thankfully he threw it up and is okay, but I had to pay $262 out of pocket for something VCA could have easily done.
After four years of paying into CareClub, I expected far better support in an emergency. Turning away a loyal member during a simple and time-sensitive situation felt like a complete disservice.
I hope VCA corporate reviews this situation and makes it right.
