  Dr. Torres spayed my rabbit on June 29, 2026. This surgery turned into a prolonged $2000+ nightmare worsened and complicated by Torres’ indifference, lack of planning, ego, and hostility. All surgeries are always risky. Exotics are expensive. I accept that. But Torres' lack of care, lack of commitment and lack of communication directly contributed to my bunny's unnecessary suffering/risk exposure and my own intense distress. In the end, my rabbit was subjected to a second dangerous corrective emergency surgery because her intestines came out of her abdominal cavity through a surgical cut (incisional hernia). Again, surgeries can go south for any number of reasons, but my rabbit's poor aftercare certainly did not help matters. When Torres first spayed my rabbit, she immediately stopped eating and went into stasis (potentially deadly). This happens often when rabbits are in pain or stressed. She was kept in a cage/stressed for 7 hours before Torres even began surgery, which certainly did not help matters. Rabbit surgery is usually performed in the morning or shortly after arrival for this reason. Additionally, Torres could have EASILY prescribed medications to get her through this predictable crisis at home with basic supportive care. This is a common practice. I've done this dozens of times over the last 28 years. However, he simply DISAPPEARED and could not be bothered to respond to my calls or messages for three days. When he finally did so, it was only to shout at me, blame me, and defend his infallability/image rather than help my rabbit. He left me in TEARS. Every vet I have ever worked with/for (and there have been many) actually reaches out to check on patients the day after surgery. Torres did not even forward his cases to an attending doctor who could act in his absence. Additionslly, when I called the clinic to ask for help, I was initially told by rude, dismissive staff to drive her to the ER despite her FRAGILE condition. This is a violation of VCA Policy according to Dr. Harrison. I was later told to drive her back to the clinic. The stress/motion of the drive alone could have KILLED her. She did not need to be moved around unnecessarily. I am sorry I TRUSTED Torres with the life of my pet. The second emergency surgery was performed by Dr. Bairon Madrigal, a devoted vet who stayed late to operate/communicate and saved my bunny's life. He acted immediately. He messaged me multiple times after 9 p.m. to tell me my bunny survived and to PLAN for the following day. That is how it is done. That is how a doctor/surgeon comports himself or herself. I am eternally grateful to Dr. Madrigal for his dedication and skilled care. My bunny is home and healing.   All of the staff are such amazing people, my family and I were just in awe. They are so compassionate. I don’t think I can ever thank them enough for the amazing care they gave my bearded dragon, Skadi, even in her last moments.
