  Our dog, Mimi, was born with a heart murmur, a condition we were made aware of when we rescued her from a shelter. For the last eight years, she has completely warmed our hearts, and we are profoundly grateful for her. However, a recent intense heat wave and humidity pushed her into cardiac arrest. I rushed her here to see the cardiologist, where they immediately placed her on oxygen and provided the critical care that saved her life.To see her go from happy and vibrant to scared and suffering was absolutely heartbreaking. While no miracle was performed and nothing can be done to completely fix her degenerative valve disease, the cardiology department and their support staff gave Mimi her life back. Because of their incredible ability to stabilize her, we now have the opportunity to see Mimi through a different lens—one with even more gratitude for the present moments we have with those we love.Today, she is back to walking, eating, and happily wagging her tail. This specific review is to recognize Dr. Kristin Barncord, Nicole Spurlock, and Brittany Shuster. If Charlie was the Ultimate Dog Whisperer, these would be his Angels. For their medical expertise, compassion, and life-saving care, they are five-star exceptional.

  Knowing that my little one was in such incredibly capable and genuinely kind hands really put my mind at ease. Our vet was fantastic – they explained everything so clearly and patiently, which helped us understand exactly what was going on without feeling overwhelmed. And honestly, every member of your staff was just brilliant; their unwavering kindness and cheerful attitudes made such a huge difference to our experience.

  My cat Oaky has been battling kidney disease for the past year and a half and Dr. Krause in Internal Medicine as well as all the staff at VCA ASEC has been so compassionate, helpful, and kind and responsive during the time of the treatment.

  Dr Somerville is so kind and spends so much time explaining surgery and answering questions. During our last surgery she called me with an update after surgery, and called days later to check on my dog. Now I have a second dog needing surgery and I’m not worried at all. I know she is in the best hands with Dr. Somerville.

  Sharing my experience as this is the review I had been searching for before choosing a surgeon for my dog in hopes it helps someone else : Highly recommend Dr. Somerville and the whole team. I brought my small senior heart dog in for a mass removal of a suspected MCT on his little hind leg. From the moment of the first consultation, I had complete confidence in Dr. Somerville- she was equally as attentive, patient and understanding as she was informative and knowledgeable. She took the time to help me understand the options, risks, and the procedure as a whole, and to listen to my opinions, preferences and suggestions. The surgery went perfectly, the sutures looked great right away and his leg healed so well and so quickly. The follow-up was also prompt and informative, again introducing all options and potential next steps. I had previously been so concerned regarding the anesthesia and I had also been so concerned about the recovery process post-anesthesia - but they meaningfully addressed the concerns/ risks and explained the protocol they would be following. I later learned that a member of the team, Isiah, went above and beyond trying to comfort Scrappy post-surgery - even laying down with him as he was coming to. I am so grateful for their excellent professional and compassionate quality of care 🩵🙏🩵
