We got a defective TV. That happens sometimes. My problem is how this store specifically chose to handle the situation.
We do not have the original box for the TV, but we have all the equipment that came with it, the receipt, and notes from Best Buy’s call center on service tickets stating they would accept the return.
We spoke to an assistant manager on the night shift who insisted on the following
1. The return policy is 14 days (false, Best Buy’s 2025 holiday return policy allows until Jan 15)
2. They can’t accept a return without the box (false per two call center agents)
3. The reason they can’t accept returns without the box is because people would buy a TV and use the receipt to return an older TV of the exact same model. This doesn’t make sense for a number of reasons not least of which is that the scammer in this case WOULD HAVE A NEW BOX after buying the TV. Why not just stuff the old TV in the new box since they’re the same model?
Terrible treatment from an understaffed store. Avoid.
