I first went to this VCA location last month, right after I adopted my new fur baby from SPCA. They provided me with a complimentary checkup voucher to any VCA office, which is what introduced me to their facility. To be honest, I was not wowed at our first appointment. Dr. Green was very brief, very dry and blah. My main concern was what SPCA told me was kitty alopecia above one of his eyes, but she literally pulled out a uv light from her back pocket, flashed the area and said it's ringworm and walked out. I felt like she did not want to be there. Fast forward to two weeks after and we are back for our follow-up. This time, we saw Dr. Sears, and I have to say she was a complete 180 from our first impression. She was so nice, cheerful and friendly. They gave my 12-week-old kitty lots of love and affection. And even better to hear he has made great improvement since we began his medication routine. I was not planning on returning after his treatment because the first visit left such a sour taste in my mouth. But between Dr. Sears and the front desk staff, I feel better about going here for my fur baby's health.

Loved the service. Very helpful. Would have stayed, but too expensive for my pockets.

Even though we had bad experiences with this vet before, we still took our cat there because they had her medical history. Upon arrival, they immediately ran tests costing over $900. The next day, the doctor called my wife, saying they were very concerned about something in the results and wanted to run even more tests off course for more money.
At that point, I asked my wife to take our cat to another vet (the one we use for our dog). She brought along the test results, and that doctor said looked normal for a cat her age. She then asked if the first vet had prescribed any medication, but I told her no, they said they would only do that after running more tests. Meanwhile, our cat had been in distress for three days without any treatment.
The new vet prescribed medication right away, and within two three days our cat was back to normal she’s right now outside happily walking around the backyard.
Please be careful taking your pets to this clinic. In our experience, they seemed more interested in making money than helping animals, leaving pet and your wallet to suffer unnecessarily.

Bad experience with Quynhtien Tran, but GREAT experience with the rest of the staff
I had a confirmed appointment for 5:15 PM. I arrived around 5:13 and waited briefly while the person before me finished. By 5:15, I was talking with the front desk (Chelsea C) about the wellness plan I had just signed up for, when by 5:20 the doctor walked out. The front desk tried to let her know I was ready, but the doctor said she had to go because no one was “checked out.” Chelsea patiently explained I was still at the counter because I had questions about the plan, not because I was a no show up. After some back-and-forth, while I was in the middle of the conversation, the arrogant doctor reluctantly agreed to see my dog.
I could tell that Dr. Quynhtien Tran had put Chelsea C in an uncomfortable position, where Chelsea essentially had to plead with the doctor, in front of me, to stay and do her job by checking out my dog. It was a pretty stupid conversation, where the doctor kept saying she had to go, and Chelsea, very politely, told her that I had an appointment. Even then, that wasn’t enough for the doctor, and she continued insisting she had to leave, despite the fact that I was there on time and only hadn’t been checked out in the system because I had questions. I actually remember seeing Dr. Quynhtien Tran standing behind Chelsea while I was talking to her, looking at her watch impatiently until she eventually tried to walk out. I was moments away from stepping in to remind her that if I have an appointment, her duty is to honor it.
In the exam room, when she tried to check my dog’s ear, he snapped. I explained that one of the reasons I switched vets was because my Frenchie had been traumatized at a previous clinic during a drop-off visit. I held my dog down so she could proceed, but instead, she just walked out saying she’d be back. She never returned. The rest of the appointment was handled by the vet tech, who explained the doctor had left and asked if I was comfortable with them administering my dog’s shots and taking blood samples instead. Since we weren’t doing any new vaccines and I was already there, I agreed, I wasn't going to come back another day, just because the doctor felt like she had a better place to be.
The rest of the staff was amazing, patient, friendly, and helpful. I helped restrain my dog so they could get everything done safely. They worked with me, joked around, and kept my dog as calm as possible. Overall, the staff at VCA Kelliwood provided great service, with the unfortunate exception of the doctor. She was dismissive, arrogant, barely spent two minutes in the room, made no real attempt to examine my dog, and left the consult to others without explanation. I left with my dog’s shots done but no actual exam from the vet.
