This is Mitzi Uvacek writing this horrible review. We had a 2pm appointment, specifically with Dr. Yonkers, for our new pup. However, we didn't even get seen today! At 1:45, I was told Yonkers had a meeting and was unavailable, but I could see a different vet. I told her if I had wanted to see a different vet, then I would have scheduled with one. We aririved at 1:45 pm to do paper work since our pup had not been there before, and that was all good. After waiting 45 min I walked up to the counter and ask when we might be seen. The young lady at the counter said that we were next, but then they called in another one of the pups first. That set me off. I told them they had five minutes to get my pup in, or I was leaving. I sat back down to wait. They then called someone else! I was done! My pup, my son, and myself had been there 1 hour and 10 min, with our new puppy crying, whining, biting, and barking, because she was terrified we were dumping her like her previous owners did! When we left, I said we would find another vet, and no one said a word! They just looked at me like they didn' t give two craps about my pup. So if you make an appointment at Jone's Road VCA Animal Hospital, pack a lunch, because you are going to be there a while, if you even get seen! We loved Dr. Yonkers, but will never step foot in that place again. If I could give them a zero I would.

Awesome service. Very detailed information was given with preventative advice and things to look for in regards to very small dogs specifically. I had originally chose another place for my dogs first exam but ended up changing my mind and im glad I did. Much better experience than the petstore clinics. Her vet was Jordan F. and Anna. Get the insurance. Its worth it!

I am deeply disappointed with the care my dog received from Dr. Sara Yonkers.and Dr Taryn Williamson
My dog was prescribed medication without a thorough evaluation of his overall health. Shortly after starting the medication, he developed serious symptoms, including coughing, fatigue, loss of appetite, and difficulty breathing.
My daughter brought him back to the clinic to report these side effects, but her concerns were dismissed, and she was told she was overreacting. No additional examination or diagnostic testing was performed at that time.
Over the following two weeks, my dog’s condition continued to worsen. He eventually became extremely weak and was later diagnosed with heart failure, high blood pressure, and fluid in the lungs, which ultimately led to his death.
The role of the medications in this case
Temaril-P
• Contains prednisolone (a steroid)
• It can:
• Cause fluid retention
• Increase blood pressure
• Worsen underlying heart disease
👉 If a dog has heart disease and is not evaluated beforehand
→ the risk becomes significantly higher
Fluconazole
• Has less direct impact on the heart
• However:
• It can make the dog feel weak or lose appetite
• It may put additional stress on the body
🧠 The most important points to note
👉 There are two major concerns in your situation:
1. Lack of thorough examination before prescribing medication
• No proper heart evaluation (auscultation, X-ray, ultrasound, etc.)
• Yet a steroid was prescribed for two weeks
👉 This is a point that could be professionally questionable
2. Ignoring warning signs
You observed:
• Difficulty breathing
• Weakness
👉 But the veterinarian said you were “overreacting”
I trusted this clinic to provide proper care and to take my concerns seriously. I believe that a more thorough evaluation and timely response to his symptoms could have made a difference.
I hope the clinic takes situations like this more seriously in the future so that other pet owners do not have to go through the same experience.

Awesome humans working here! So accommodating to myself & my 105lb GSD. From making the appointment, to helping me upon arrival, understanding of Church's idiosyncrasies (dog selective, high prey drive, no children -- ALL due to the abuse he suffered in his 1st yr of life). He's super sweet & is well-mannered nature, which he showed. The fantastic vet has a husky & GSD. The Tech was A++. Shall be switching all my pups to VCA Jones Rd.

We originally brought our sweet pup Amelia here, and Dr. Yonkers was absolutely amazing. When Amelia passed, every single person we interacted with showed such compassion and kindness and it truly meant more to us than we can put into words.
Now our pups Fred, Whiskey, and Hammy see Dr. Escobar and Dr. Knight, and they are just as incredible. The level of care, attention, and genuine love they show for our pets gives us so much peace of mind.
Their hours are super convenient, and the Care Club has been a game changer for us. Being on a budget, it’s such a relief knowing we’re getting consistent, quality care without feeling overwhelmed by unexpected costs.
We are so grateful to have found a vet team that treats our pets like family!
