We’ve never been to a VCA we didn’t like until this visit. The vet tech was not friendly, and Dr. Johnson did not truly listen. She seemed more interested in selling to us rather than trying to help. The office manager, Lo, was also unpleasant to text with. She questioned and undermined us when we requested simple prescription refills. She told us we shouldn’t have stopped the medication abruptly and should have called within 24 hours of running out. We definitely would have if someone had mentioned it. She responded with a defensive attitude.
What she didn’t know is that we had called the previous morning and were told the prescriptions would be sent in. It turns out no one ever called them in. She then proceeded to tell us that we would need to schedule a follow-up appointment in order to receive one of the prescriptions. We found this interesting because we had the same prescription refilled without a follow-up visit at another VCA.
This place is more focused on making money than great customer service. Save yourself the trouble and steer clear of this office.

The whole staff at VCA are wonderful. I lost my beloved dog of 15 yrs today. Dr. Merrell and Danielle were amazing. I can't thank them enough. It was such a hard day and they were loving, sympathetic, compassionate and so extremely supportive. Thank you both So much.

There are so many wonderful things to share about Dr. Merrell and the entire staff at McKay’s Mill Animal Hospital, making it very hard to capture in a review. They took care of our precious English lab, Georgia, for twelve and a half years. From puppyhood until her last days, the entire staff loved on her and gave her the very best care, and helped and guided us through her illnesses and senior years with heartfelt concern. Their caring, compassion, and love for animals are unmatched!
Thanks to Dr. Merrell and her knowledge of the newest medications, we had an additional year and a half with our sweet girl—time that we would otherwise not have gotten because of her arthritis. The average life span of a Labrador retriever is 10 years, and they gave us 12 and a half. We are so thankful!
Georgia loved this staff so much and no matter where we moved after leaving the McKay’s Mill neighborhood, we made the drive back to MMAH. From Brentwood, Nashville, and even Columbia, we made the drive so Georgia could continue her vet care by this wonderful practice.
We also loved working with Dr. Woodard on Dr. Merrell‘s days off. The front desk staff and all techs went above and beyond every time we visited and there are times in her later years that I just don’t know what we would have done without them. They loved and cared for Georgia like she was their own and we are forever grateful!
