My dog recently experienced an unfortunate incident where another dog bit his ear. There was blood everywhere, and understandably, I was extremely shaken. VCA Animal Hospitals was the closest clinic to us, so we rushed there for urgent care.
I cannot say enough about how incredible the staff was during such a stressful moment. They were calm, patient, and completely on top of everything. While I was panicking at the sight of all the blood, they reassured me that my dog was going to be okay and handled the situation with true professionalism and compassion.
I’m so grateful not only for the excellent care they provided to my dog, but also for the kindness and support they showed me. It made all the difference during a very scary experience.

My son's 20 year old calico, Callie,--a gift from Santa when he was three--reached the end of her road last week. My son was hesitant to take her in, since she stood by him while he went through chemo for lymphoma. She stopped eating and could barely stand, so we took her to the VCA in SE for her final journey. The people there, from the front desk to the doctor at the end, were compassionate to my son and Callie, making a difficult situation easier to manage--especially for my son. Like he held her that Christmas morning 20 years earlier, he held Callie for the last time, a bond that will endure. The hole is great; however, the VCA was awesome. Callie is in a much better place.
If I could give zero stars I would this business should be shut down.
After getting the run around about their imaginary care club we took our pet in for an emergency visit.
While waiting for the visit to finish up an elderly man had financial issues and other problems unbeknownst to my knowledge and had to refuse care for his elderly dog. After they wheeled his dog out to his car they came back in and proceeded to make snarky faces and laugh at the elderly man’s issues.
Before the visit was over we were told multiple times and saw on their website we can sign up for a care plan to pay for the visit and xray when it was over they told us we needed to pay for the visit to know what the findings were and that we’ll be denied access to the care club. After we asked them a multitude of times about how we needed to sign up for it they lied to us and told us we needed to pay for said visit.
They have predatory policies and make fun of people in financial struggles.

I don't usually do online reviews but felt strongly this incident needs to be addressed. We've used VCA Southeast Portland for at least 5+ years for emergency care. In the past year we switched vets to VCA Southeast Portland for all our pet care. I've always been impressed with the professionalism, caring and empathy exhibited by the staff here...until my last visit. I saw Dr. Menkar for the first time when my 1 year old puppy was having difficulty pooping and peeing. He was able to help with our problem but I left feeling upset by his brusque approach. Perhaps someone should explain how much we, as pet parents worry about our pets, and that when you have a normally extremely active puppy who is suddenly extremely lethargic and not pooping or peeing it can be very upsetting to the pet parent. Showing a little kindness and empathy doesn't cost anything and goes a long way towards helping the situation.

Terrible place to take your pet. I have an 8 year old miniature schnauzer who in September had a growth in her inner leg. Took her here for evaluation, we were told that to know if it was cancer the best way to go was to do a needle aspiration ($1090) We asked several times if this would tell us what type of growth this was, they said "yes, is the most accurate". They offered blood tests, xrays and the needle aspiration, we went with the aspiration based on what we were told. After the aspiration was done, Dr Gosney told my daughter and then myself basically that the tech did not go deep enough thus only fat cells were drawn and that now she recommended a biopsy. We did not have the money for another procedure. We all feel, we were mislead and misinformed regarding the procedure and the least they could have done was to repeat the aspiration and do it right. Now Ehma is worse and we basically feel helpless. Called Dr Gosney to discussed this and to remind her what she told us back in September but she wasn't interested in talking to me about it. I talked to another vet who told us this is very unprofessional. I wouldn't take my dog's enemy to this place. They dont care about your pets, have no compassion and are not accountable for what they tell you so they can get your money. Very sad. Do not recommended this place at all. Stay away from this place!
Your team wasn't interested in discussing or helping us resolve this matter. Your offer is great however, not followed by your team or the doctor. Our pets are members of our family butvthat is not something your team understands or cares. Especially the doctor.
